Every year, football fans wait for the newest Madden video-game to hit store shelves. Baseball enthusiasts await the annual additions to the Major League Baseball line of video-games. Likewise, each and every year, the WWE Universe can get in the ring as their favorite pro wrestling stars in WWE Smackdown vs. RAW. In 2011, however, fans can look forward to a second wrestling title, WWE All Stars and an exciting twist on the genre.

In WWE Smackdown vs. RAW, fans expect ultra realism in the professional wrestling simulator. The style of the game aims to mimic the presentation and format of the live WWE events. WWE All Stars goes off in a different direction. In the spirit of classic arcade style wrestling games and fighters, All Stars offers a more fast paced exaggerated pro wrestling experience. Play as your favorite WWE Legends or Superstars in this unique blend of fighting and wrestling.

The game is headed by video game veteran Sal DiVita who has gotten his hands dirty with such titles as NBA Jam and NFL Blitz. Perhaps most relevant though is DiVita's involvement with WWF Wrestlemania: The Arcade Game. One of the earlier arcade style wrestling game featured over the top animations and game play. Wrestlers would have unique moves based on their characters, such as a mallet for Doink the Clown and a Heartbreak Hotel ability for Shawn Michaels. WWE All Stars has been made very much in this spirit. DiVita said in an interview that "for example, if you have Undertaker, he'll be doing things that are very Undertakerish as a character, but beyond what you'd see on the show. (They) will be taking his moves and his personality to a level that is beyond larger than life."

In what looks to be a fresh and exciting spin on the wrestling game genre, WWE All Stars debuts across multiple platforms in the first quarter of 2011!

If it includes emulated versions of Wrestlemania: The Arcade Game and Wrestlefest, I'm all for it. Otherwise, this'll be a rent as best for me.
