WWE Armageddon 2007 Preview

It's Not Just a Throwaway Show

Sandwiched between Survivor Series and Royal Rumble, WWE Armageddon may seem like a skippable pay-per-view. That would be a mistake, because this is looking like an outstanding show, at least on paper. Here's a preview of the event, which will air on pay-per-view on Dec. 16 at 8 pm.

Batista vs. Undertaker vs. Edge

This is a Triple Threat match for Batista's (Smackdown)World title. Edge's interference led to Batista's win over Undertaker at last month's Hell in a Cell match at Survivor Series. These three keep attacking each other, so Smackdown General Manager put them all in the same match. Look for the opportunistic Edge to play his two larger opponents against each other and sneak away with the title.

Chris Jericho vs. Randy Orton

Orton's WWE (Raw) title is on the line, as Chris Jericho immediately targeted the top prize when he returned last month. The pressure is on Jericho to put on a good match and prove himself as a main-event contender. Orton should manage to retain the belt.

Jeff Hardy vs. Triple H

This is the biggest match of Hardy's career, even though his Intercontinental title won't be on the line. The winner will get a WWE title shot, and Jeff would finally break through as a main-event caliber singles star. As much fun as that would be, Triple H will probably get the win.

Shawn Michaels vs. Mr. Kennedy

This could be the best match on the show, as Kennedy's talent is starting to match his big mouth. Michaels has lost a few matches lately, so he should bounce back and keep the younger Kennedy down - this time.

Finlay vs. The Great Khali

If anyone is up for fighting a giant, it's the brawling Irishman, Finlay. He saved his leprechaun pal, Hornswoggle, from Khali at Survivor Series. Now it's Finlay's turn to battle the Indian giant. Finlay's tough, but Khali's size makes him almost unstoppable.

Mickie James vs. Beth Phoenix

Beth's WWE women's title will be on the line. Mickie has held the belt three times before, and she has been on a winning streak. However, Beth pinned her with relative ease in a tag team match on the Dec. 3 Raw. I don't see Beth losing the title here.

C.M. Punk & Kane vs. Big Daddy V & Mark Henry

Punk gets a break from defending his ECW title, but he and Kane will have their hands full against V and Henry, who weigh 800 pounds combined. Punk will probably lose here to set up his next ECW title defense.

Rey Misterio vs. MVP

This is another bout that could steal the show. MVP's US title will be on the line, and he and Rey should put on a high-flying, athletic match. MVP should win, as he continues his march toward main-event status in the WWE.

Last year's Armageddon featured an insane four-team ladder match that saw Joey Mercury suffer a broken nose. Paul London & Brian Kendrick won the match.
