WWE Causes a Controversial Uproar Concerning Owen Hart

For many longtime WWE fans, May 23 will be remembered as the day Owen Hart passed away in Kansas City. The tragedy happened at the "Over The Edge" pay per view at Kemper Arena in Kansas City. Owen was scheduled to descend from above the ring, under his Blue Blazer gimmick. However, his harness malfunctioned and he fell over 70 feet to his death. Because of what happened, WWE never officially released the event on video or DVD.

If you look on Wikipidia and search for WWE pay-per-views for every year since that event, you will notice that it was the last time WWE held a pay-per-view on May 23. That is, until this year. This year on May 23, WWE goes back to pay-per-view with an event titled..."Over The Limit." It was published on the WWE website earlier this month on their list of upcoming pay-per-view events. No, it's not being held in Kansas City, but I do have a problem with it.

Is it not bad enough that it has been nearly 11 years since that night and Owen Hart is STILL not in the WWE Hall of Fame, yet Pete Rose, who has only made a couple of brief appearances at WrestleMania has a spot? Owen was the 1994 King of the Ring, one year after his brother won the event. He won every major championship in the WWE except for the WWE Championship and win the Royal Rumble. He nailed every other accomplishment in the book, not to mention grabbed the WWE Tag Team Titles with THREE different partners: Yokozuna, British Bulldog, and Jeff Jarrett.

Now the WWE, who has brought back Owen's legendary brother Bret for WrestleMania, wants to hold a pay-per-view event 11 years to the day he died, and name it "Over The Limit." I'm sorry, but this an absolute disaster. It's bad enough that Owen's wife Martha is the only roadblock standing before the Hall of Fame doors. Bret has already said that in previous interviews.

I will get a lot of heat for this most likely, but Owen Hart (in my opinion) is the best wrestler to have NEVER won a major world championship. There are several names throughout history that could make the same claim, however I don't thin any of them stood out as well or as historically as the King of Harts stood out. Bear in mind, that is just MY opinion. We'll see how well my opinion flies with my readers when I open up on Chris Benoit soon.

I can see where you're coming from with Owen Hart he does deserve to be in the WWE Hall of Fame. I hope they will induct him soon. Bret's father deserves it to for it was his Stampede Wrestling that a lot of WWE's biggest stars came from including his sons Bret and Owen Hart. Chris Benoit, Y2J, Tyson Kidd, DH Smith Natalya Niedhart just to name a few. Most of all Owen Hart the King of Harts deserves his rightful spot on the WWE Hall of Fame. I will pray that he gets it.
