WWE Draft Preview 2009

Who Should Switch to Raw, Smackdown and ECW?

Jeff D Gorman
Everyone is preparing for Wrestlemania 25 on April 5, but just eight days later, it will be time for the annual WWE Draft. This is a great time to shake things up at the top of the card, while breaking the lower-card guys out their ruts by giving them a change of scenery.

Here are my ideas for who should switch brands:

WHO SHOULD COME TO RAW?

Jeff Hardy

Fans on Smackdown followed him for months as he relentlessly stalked and finally won the WWE title. On Raw, he could have great feuds with Chris Jericho, Randy Orton, and even Kane.

This would end Jeff's feud with his brother Matt, but I would rather the Hardy Boyz face off in one big match at Wrestlemania than to battle each other relentlessly for months around the country, like Bret and Owen Hart did in 1994.

Also this way, both brothers could target the top titles on their respective brands.

John Morrison and The Miz

They are on ECW, defending the Raw titles, and often appearing on Smackdown as well. It's very confusing. Just keep them on Raw and let them dominate the tag team scene.

When it's finally time for them to stop teaming, don't feud them with each other, since they are both natural heels. Just push Morrison to the top as a heel (like Chris Jericho) and bring in Joey Mercury as the new partner of The Miz.

Vladimir Kozlov

Kozlov and Umaga should both be crushing jobbers every week. This is hard to accomplish with both of them on the same show. Let them dominate guys on separate shows until it's time to but them in big feuds with guys like John Cena and The Undertaker.

MVP

MVP has gone nowhere on Smackdown ever since WWE gave his "cocky, athletic, long-reigning U.S. champion" gimmick to Shelton Benjamin. If MVP were on Raw, he could have entertaining matches with Rey Mysterio, Chris Jericho, Ted DiBiase, C.M. Punk, and William Regal.

Vickie Guerrero

As effective as Vickie's pairing with Edge has been, I think it could start to get old if they keep going with the same "Vickie uses her power as General Manager to help Edge protect his title" bit.

I would much rather see them try to get along on separate brands without each other. It would open up a lot of new possibilities.

WHO SHOULD COME TO SMACKDOWN?

Jack Swagger

"The All-American American" is off to a great start in his WWE career. I think he's ready to test himself against big-time opponents like Triple H and The Great Khali.

Christian

With Vickie over on Raw, Christian can watch Edge's back on Smackdown. They could always add Tyson Tomko to their stable for some extra muscle.

Edge & Christian could keep Big Show on their unofficial team, or they could add...

Mark Henry

He rejuvenated his career with a run as the ECW champion, but now he's ready to move back up and face tougher competition. He could have a good feud with Triple H.

Teddy Long

Teddy Long has done a great job as General Manager on ECW, so he should just move back to his previous spot as Smackdown GM. He can even bring Tiffany with him. Tommy Dreamer could take over as the GM of ECW.

WHO SHOULD COME TO ECW?

Mr. Kennedy

After so many false starts with injuries, a suspension, and a movie shoot, Mr. Kennedy needs to start his career over again. He should dominate ECW, and he could have great matches with Evan Bourne and Tyson Kidd over the ECW title. Then he'd be ready for a big jump back to Raw or Smackdown.

Jesse & Festus

These two are accomplishing nothing on Smackdown, so they might as well go to ECW, even though there is no tag team title there. They could add to the comedy on the Sci-Fi Channel with Hornswoggle and The Boogeyman.

Jimmy Wang Yang and Gregory Helms

Here are two more talented wrestlers who could use a career reboot. Have them take on the graduates of the WWE farm system, which will hopefully include D.H. Smith (his third try), Eric Escobar and Low-Ki, and we should see a lot of great wrestling on Tuesday nights.

Since the WWE split into two brands in 2002, only one wrestler has remained on the same brand (Funaki on Smackdown)
