WWE Legend Captain Lou Albano Dies at Age 76

"The Most Hated Man in the WWE"

Today, with great sadness in my heart, I report that one of my all time favorite WWE legends has passed away. Captain Lou Albano started off as a tag team wrestler in the 1950's, then joined with Vince McMahon in the 1960's for a tag team duo called "The Sicilians" with Tony Altimore.

Captain Lou Albano made became "one of the most hated men" in the WWE according to his biography on the WWE website. In the 1970's he became one of the most feared, hated and recognized managers of wrestling champions. He was with the WWE from 1986 to 1996, the year he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. A place he rightly deserved.

In the 1980's Capt'n Lou became popular again after teaming up with Cyndi Lauper on a few music videos. Some may remember him as the Papa in "Papa Don't Preach" and in "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" music videos.

His appearance has always been on the crazy side. Rubber bands graced his beard and a long earring dangled from his left earlobe. A smile, smirk or grimace graced his face when he took to the ring. The WWE said on their website about his death, "He will be greatly missed by the WWE and his fans."

Captain Lou Albano went from wrestling to music videos then landed roles on shows such as "Miami Vice" and eventually became the voice of Mario "Jumpman" on the cartoon "The Super Mario Bros. Super Show" for 17 episodes.

The cause of death is not being disclosed but sources reported that he was under hospice care after being released from a hospital earlier this week. Source: Baltimore Sun

You can see a great Captain Lou Albano video on Spike TV called 1-900-Call Captain Lou Albano. This was a video ad to get the latest wrestling news from the Capt'n himself. Another great video for your viewing pleasure is Rick Martel vs. Captain Lou during Spectrum Wrestling.

Or you could watch Jimmy Snuka take out his revenge on Captain Lou here at YouTube after a vicious attack on Snuka done by Captain Lou.

It is truly a sad day for the WWE and wrestling fans everywhere. Captain Lou Albano was and is and WWE Legend and he will be greatly missed.

My deepest condolences go out to his family, friends and loved ones. May he rest in peace.

Ah, Lou, Lou! How could you? Going to miss this guy. I used to be a fan of Wrestling. Lou was a bum. But he was the kind of bum you had to respect.
