I have been watching professional wresting since the late 1970s. Pro wrestling has been a source of entertainment and discussion material for friends and family alike. We could always comment on watching AWA, NWA, WCW, WWF, CCW, and any other wrestling organization we happened to find on television or in the pages of wrestling magazines. However, none of those experiences match up to seeing superstar sports entertainers performing live. Why do I say that?
First of all, you are closer to the action than you would ever be unless you were in the ring yourself. Not only can you see all the action "up close and personal" but you also get to do so without television editing, camera angles, and commercials. When WWE Raw breaks for commercial during a grudge match, the action in the ring does not stop. You get to see everything without missing a beat. If you look to the Titantron screen, you can see what the television viewers see. In addition to a different view of the matches from television, you'll also get to see special untelevised "dark matches" just for the local crowd. Sometimes you'll see local talent. Sometimes you'll see up and coming talent about to make a push for the "big time." Other times, you'll see blockbuster matches featuring superstars reserved just for the local card.
Second, you get to hear all the action. When you're watching on television, you hear the ringside announcers and the microphone holding entertainers. Sure, you get to hear some of the stadium noise, but not much. It's way too easy for the production crew to edit out any sounds they don't want the television crowd to hear. When you're there live, you can hear it all. Cheers for the bad guy, chants for other wrestling promotions, and more can be heard easily. Heck, you can join in. As a matter of fact, my section had a fondness for the heel wrestlers the whole night. Our affinity for the baddies was shared by large sections of the crowd, especially booing babyfaces like John Cena.
Lastly, you are in the midst of an electrifying crowd experience. Good action in the ring means high fives and spilled beer. Slow action gets the whole crowd booing or chanting derogatory remarks. You have to be there to believe it, but I can assure you that you will not regret your purchase. In fact, the fans in the nosebleed section were having just as much fun as we were on the floor.
When you're visiting the WWE website (or TNA, I'll mention the "other guy") look to see when they are coming to your area. Maybe you have to drive an hour or so. Make the drive. Get some $15 tickets or brave the floor section. Have a great 3-4 hours of entertainment with some friends. Then you'll be writing about your experience, how you almost got into a fight with that John Cena look alike, and how expensive the food was. No matter what, you'll have stories to tell that you won't soon forget.

Post a CommentI know I'm responding a year late, but this is a great article! I'm a huge WWE fan and I absolutely LOVE going to the live events (televised or non-televised)! I actually just attended a WWE Raw World Tour house show at the end of December and it was great! I just love the atmosphere, being around people who are just as excited as I am, and watching all of the action in person. There is nothing like seeing your favorites live and in person! I've seats ranging from the floor to "nosebleeds", and I have had a blast at each show I attended! WWE live events are definitely worth going to! :)
It is worth the effort to go and see WWE live. I have never been disappointed.
Never been--but am inspired now!
I wish WWE would come to Memphis more often. What a great show. I'd love to see a PPV live also. I'd even travel to see one of those if it were a few hours away.
Do me a huge favor, folks and look at my article on "How to Save WWE". I'd like to read your comments. I think I've got a decent plan to improve the product.
I agree, man. I've been to many WWE live events in the past, and they're all fulfilling. I love getting into it, and yelling at the guys I don't like. (mostly faces, lol) Backlash '09 was easily the best event I've gone to. Heck of a show!
I was at a live event to see Chris Jericho. He does not disappoint. In fact, since it was a dark match, he had more time to interact with the crowd. At one point, pre-match, he and Edge were working the ring, pointing out signs in the crowd and commenting on them. It was great. My whole section was cheering for both of them. Rooting for the heels is always more fun. If they turn face, I'll be upset. They are perfect on the mic and in ring as heels.
I completely agree, I have attented 5 WWE shows recently including a PPV. What they show on especially the beginning is only part of the actual show. You see things like 1) hearing Lilian Garcia who has an incredible voice by the way singing the national anthem and calling out the time marks before the program goes live. 2) Things like blown spots during the 08-26 Raw broadcast where the superstars match being taped ran long so Lilian dn the ring crew had to rush thorugh the national anthem and the other ring announcements before going live. Or on the same program a blown spot where a match ended early and caught both Lilian and the announcing crew completely off guard, so much so they had to scramble back to their microphones or 3) From the same show a food fight involving the entire roster vs HHH. At the house shows, you can really interact with the performers. At one I attended recently Chavo kept stopping his match to criticize the crowd because we kept booing him.
