WWE Ruins the Return of Brodus Clay

Spy Radio

On the January 9 th , 2012 episode of Monday Night Raw, Brodus Clay made his long awaited return to the WWE. Clay returned as 'The Funkasaurus'. A fun loving character from Planet Funk who loves to dance. Clay showed off his dance moves before defeating Curt Hawkins. Apparently the WWE was happy with Clay's return. Shortly after Clay's Match he was the number one world wide trend on twitter. Even though Clay was trending number one world wide, it does not mean the WWE Universe was pleased with Clay returning as 'The Funkasaurus'.

I was not pleased with Clay returning as 'The Funkasaurus'. This is a terrible gimmick for Clay. Clay stands 6 feet 7 inches tall and weighs nearly 400 pounds. Based on his size Clay should not be playing a fun loving dancer. In the past Dancers have not worked out well for the WWE, remember Dj Gabriel? Unlike Gabriel, Clay has the size factor going for him. If 'The Funkasaurus' character does not work out Clay could always return with another gimmick.

The WWE had so many other options with Clay. The Miz was looking for a body guard, he could have found that body guard in Brodus Clay. Clay could have returned as a monster who took over 'The Hall Of Pain' from Mark Henry. Clay taking over 'The Hall Of Pain' would have been great since the idea was originally his. It would have worked out perfectly since Mark Henry is currently injured but has not been written off television.

Both of those scenarios portray Clay as a heel, the WWE obviously wanted Clay to return as a face. In that case the WWE should have had Clay return as Alberto Del Rio's replacement for the Royal Rumble. Del Rio could have claimed that do to his injury he would be unable to compete in the Royal Rumble. For that reason Executive Vice President of Talent Relations and Interim General Manager of Monday Night Raw, John Laurinaitis made an exception that Del Rio could find someone to compete on his behalf. Del Rio would select his NXT Rookie Brodus Clay. Clay would than compete and win the Royal Rumble. Instead of handing over the Championship Match at WrestleMania to Del Rio, Clay could decide that he wants to keep the Match for himself. Thus turning himself face and setting up a feud between Del Rio and Clay for the Championship Match at WrestleMania.

Wrestlers are the largest group of love/hate relationships that exist! It is what holds our interest. Good job, as always!

I am unfamiliar with Rikishi but I do know a great writer when I read one....and that would be YOU!

Hey Lawrence, I do remember Rikishi. He use to dance with Too Cool. Rikishi only lasted about a year with Too Cool before turning heel. The only singles Championship Rikishi ever held was the Intercontinental Championship. To me Clay could be the WWE or World Heavyweight Champion but I’m not sure he can do it as ‘The Funkasarus’. I could see him winning the United States or Intercontinental Championship as ‘The Funkasarus’. I don’t know if Clay can last longer than a few years as ‘The Funkasarus’ before he needs to be repackaged again. ‘The Funkasarus’ is probably not a career killer for Clay, as Mark Henry played some different characters before winning the World Heavyweight Championship.

People seem to either love or hate The Funkasarus. Personally, I found the character enjoyable because Brodus seemed to be having a lot of fun with it. When a wrestler holds passion for his character, everything becomes so much more entertaining.
