To make things even more interesting, WWE decided to have two of these matches at the Unforgiven Pay-Per-View. It will contest its two major titles with this new match format. Both the World Heavyweight title (Raw) and the WWE title (Smackdown) will be contested in "Championship Scramble" format. Current World Heavyweight champion CM Punk resides on the WWE Raw roster. He will defend his title against superstars John Cena, John Bradshaw Layfield (aka "JBL"), Kane and Batista. Each of the 4 competitors has an equal and exciting opportunity to walk out of Unforgiven as the new World Heavyweight champion. As of Monday night Raw the following evening we could see a new WWE superstar wearing CM Punk's championship belt.
As for the Smackdown roster, current champion is Triple H, who holds the much-coveted WWE title. Triple H will defend his title in a Championship Scramble against current opponents MVP, Shelton Benjamin, Jeff Hardy and "The Brian Kendrick, a surprise entrant who won a Smackdown qualifying Battle Royal. Smackdown could also see things shaken up if someone is able to score that last pinfall on Triple H and leave the Pay-Per-View as new champ!
Early predictions have leaned towards both of the current champs retaining their titles at Unforgiven 2008. However, others have leaned towards Triple H being the more likely to lose his title. Jeff Hardy is a fan favorite who was on a rise prior to a suspension. He was set to participate in a Ladder Match at Wrestlemania 24, but had to sit on the sidelines due to a drug policy violation. The winner of that ladder match, CM Punk, eventually went on to cash in his winnings. Punk held a briefcase containing a contract for a title shot, at any time, any place. So Punk conveniently cashed in and took the World Heavyweight title. Now fans await the upcoming event to see who walks out as champ. Expect a full card of great matches at Unforgiven 2008, including the WWE Divas and WWE Supertars!
