Smackdown Draws Poorly in Pittsburgh

Waste of my time

The WWE's SmackDown! brand had a house show in Pittsburgh, at the Consol Energy Center on July 23rd. 4300 fans attended, and the gate was announced as $156,000.

Because this SmackDown! house show was on the same day as a RAW show in Wildwood, NJ, and Pittsburgh being a bigger market, the WWE apparently sent Rey Mysterio and The Miz (who are typically on the RAW Brand) to provide more star-power.

Earlier that day, Christian (who is now the SmackDown! brand Champion) appeared at the Green Tree K-Mart to meet 300 fans.

Results of the show:

Opener was a 12 man battle royal to determine who get's to battle Ezekiel Jackson for the Intercontinental Title later on the card. Ted Dibiase won.

Kaitlyn was the "Special Guest Host" of the night. After being introduced by ring announcer Tony Chimel, she was confronted by Melina & Tamina, but was saved by the team of Natalya & AJ.

This lead to a tag team match, which was won by the face team

Jinder Mahal then beat Tyson Kidd. After the match, Wade Barrett attacked Tyson Kidd. Barrett then challenged Sheamus.

Sheamus responded to the challenge, and seems to be moving from heel to face. The crowd got behind him, and he won with the Brogue Kick.

In what may have been a run-through for the WWE RAW Heavyweight title match that would happen the following Monday, Rey Mysterio won over The Miz. The Miz was surprisingly cheered when he talked, until he brought up his Cleveland roots.

Intermission ensued, following a dance contest for a fan to get a backstage pass.

After the intermission, Mark Henry buried Daniel Bryan.

The Intercontinental Championship was defended by Ezekiel Jackson, and he used a Living Legend style backbreaker to force Ted DiBiase to submit.

The Main Event featured one more battle between Randy Orton and Christian. Bret Hart was the special outside-the-ring enforcer (it was expected for him to be the special guest referee.) Surprisingly,
Hart sided with Orton against his fellow Canadian, but he also wore a Sydney Crosby shirt. What was weird was Hart preventing Christian from using a chair, but he had no problem watching Orton destroy Christian with a cane.
Orton was DQ'd, but both Orton & Hart played it up as if it were a win afterwards.
