WWE Summerslam Preview: Raw Brand

Bruce Bostwick
This is the final brand of this 3 part series concerning WWE Summerslam. It will be out coming up really quick and is the biggest party of the summer. There have been a few matches that have been hyped up but also some unlikely but likely matches. There have been only two confirmed matches for sure. It is WWE Champion John Cena defending against Randy Orton and King Booker is facing off with the returning HHH. All in all, the whole card just seems like there isn't a lot of build for the show and only has confirmed bouts. Unless there are other matches happening, this is going to be one of the shortest cards ever seen. Without further or do, here comes the Raw side of Summerslam.

HHH vs. King Booker

This is not the 1st time they've faced off. They had a match for the World Title at Wrestlemania 19, which in a controversial move at the time HHH retained the title after the build was to look for Booker to win the gold. In a 1 on 1 situation, it sure has seemed like Booker would be the underdog and has yet to give HHH defeat. The 10 time World Champion is returning from a serious quad injury and will be making perhaps his in-ring return at this particular event. By that logic, it would seem that HHH is most likely to win even though the feud has looked like Booker and Lawler more than HHH and Booker due to the way it is being booked. This is pretty much one of those no-brainer matches so look for HHH to take the victory and what happens next, who knows.

Winner: HHH

WWE Title-John Cena © vs. Randy Orton

Looking back in the past, Orton has had a fair share of actually being successful at Summerslam. He won the World Heavyweight Title off of Chris Benoit 3 years ago and now this year he is challenging for the WWE Title in a one on one match. Cena has been basically untouchable and hasn't been beaten for the gold this year. It does seem like his run is starting to catch up to the likes of men who've held it one year in the modern era with Hogan being the last to hold the gold for more than one year and of course Randy Savage when he held it for one year. That is quite an impressive resume and something to be proud of. Like him or hate him, he draws the attention and can make people actually care about the match. Orton however, has been on a roller coaster ride and has not held a singles championship since his World Title win and became the youngest World Heavyweight Champion in history. He wants to be WWE Champion for the 1st time in his career. While this would be a no-brainer to pick a true winner, it would be expected to pick Cena since he has the edge in Main Events but also some could pick Orton due to there being a time where Cena just doesn't win. It will be close but the pick for this bout will most likely be Cena.

Winner and STILL WWE Champion: John CenaThe only other possible match ups but not likely to happen would be Umaga possibly facing Carlito for the Intercontinental Championship, Cryme Tyme going for the tag team titles against Cade and Murdoch, whom haven't defended the belts in quite some time. Those ones are most likely not to happen but if there was a guess it would be Umaga and Carlito facing off and with Umaga retaining. The way he has been built, no one could really beat him one on one unless it's Cena of course. Well, to put it blunt, it concludes the Summerslam Preview for the year. It is the biggest party of the summer. Will it be any good or will it suck? If there are more matches coming, it might be decent but even with a small line up that means that all the matches will have to go at least 20 to 30 minutes considering the fact it is a 3 hour PPV and if it just barley gets over the 2 hour mark, it would feel like a rip-off paying $40 for it.
