WWE Summerslam Preview: Smackdown Brand

Bruce Bostwick
The Smackdown brand is set to have at least 2 confirmed matches at this very moment. Rey Mysterio is going to be returning after about a one-year absence with a torn ACL against Chavo Guerrero. There is also going to be Batista challenging for the World Heavyweight Title in his 5th Consecutive PPV going after the gold against reigning champion The Great Khali. These are the two confirmed matches on the Smackdown brand for Summerslam but there are possibilities of other matches happening. Most likely and probably will be expected for sure will be MVP putting up the United States championship against #1 contender Matt Hardy. He is right now the only one in position to challenge for that championship. There is also another possibility based upon Friday Night Smackdown with Finlay squaring off against Kane. The final possible match up though not likely to happen would be Hornswoggle going up against Jamie Noble. Without further or do, here are the previews of the upcoming matches that have been set in stone for Summerslam and then finally the predicted matches with the winners picked out as well.

Rey Mysterio vs. Chavo Guerrero

Rey Mysterio had come off a World Title reign after losing it to King Booker thanks in part to Chavo Guerrero. The story was built that Rey was basically using the late Eddie Guerrero to leech off of and it was upsetting Chavo. Now Mysterio was all ready having knee problems but kept going until the "I Quit" match with Chavo where he was forced to say those words and since that time however Chavo Guerrero was Cruiserweight Champion against right after failing to win the US Title and move up one step closer to being World Champion. Chavo Guerrero had lost the belt to Hornswoggle and now is concerned that he has Mysterio out for revenge. Seeing that Rey Mysterio is returning, the odds say that Mysterio is most likely to win due to it being his return to the ring. With the Smackdown brand having few Main Eventers, it would be no surprise after this feud that Mysterio gets back into the World Title picture.

Winner: Rey Mysterio

World Heavyweight Title-The Great Khali© vs. Batista

This is Batista's 5th Straight title shot on PPV. Originally it wasn't to continue but due to Edge's injury, he has been reinserted back into the title mix. The champion however is the big monster from India, The Great Khali. He has so far avoided injury but it would be no surprise that he ends up injured due to the supposed World Title curse on Smackdown. Khali has been seen as unstoppable since returning to Smackdown after getting beaten by John Cena. The Animal has been getting more and more angry with each title loss, which is leading to a possible heel turn. So this one is a bit of a challenge to pick a true winner. Depending on what is going on after Summerslam will determine what shall happen next as far as challengers. The pick for this will be Khali to retain and possibly further a possible Batista heel turn.

Winner: The Great KhaliThe possible match ups are with Matt Hardy challenging for the US Title against MVP. In that match, it can be expected that because of the way it's being presented like Matt Hardy can't win a major singles title, he should win the title. Otherwise, the build for it would be rather weak. It has become apparent that the next possible feud could be Kane and Finley. That's a tough one as it is just starting out. Those are some of the major possibilities concerning Summerslam. Of course, it is also possible that it could be a rather short card but longer matches. This is all for the Smackdown portion of Summerslam and the conclusion will be with Raw.
