WWE Survivor Series 2007 Preview

Someones Getting a Big Swerve

Ten years ago, the wrestling world saw the Screwjob of the Century at the Survivor Series in Montreal. This year, the WWE and Shawn Michaels are returning to the scene of the crime for Survivor Series 2007.

Bret Hart lost the WWE title to Michaels at the 1997 event when referee Earl Hebner prematurely said Bret submitted. WWE Chairman Vince McMahon ordered the bell rung and the title was gone. Unlike almost everything in the pro wrestling ring, that was not supposed to happen. Bret went to WCW, Vince became the evil boss and he made about a zillion dollars feuding with Stone Cold Steve Austin.

A lot has changed in 10 years. Michaels is a good guy, Bret is retired and WCW is out of business. It will be interesting to see what happens when Michaels tries to make history again in Montreal.

WWE Champion Randy Orton vs. Shawn Michaels
This match has some interesting stipulations. Michaels is not allowed even to attempt to use his "Sweet Chin Music" superkick. In order to get the move banned, Orton had to agree that he would lose the Raw championship belt if he tried to get disqualified. This leaves a lot of room for someone to get "screwed" out of the title in the same manner Bret Hart lost the belt. It will be interesting to see who does what to whom. Don't expect a clean victory, but you should be treated to an interesting controversy.

World Champion Batista vs. Undertaker - Hell in a Cell
On the Smackdown side, Batista and Undertaker will settle their feud in 'Taker's specialty match. Undertaker won the belt from Batista at Wrestlemania, but Batista evened the score at the last WWE pay-per-view, Cyber Sunday. For some reason, these two have great matches against each other, and this should be an exciting blowoff to the feud. Look for Batista to come out on top.

Team HHH vs. Team Umaga
HHH will tag up with Rey Misterio, The Hardy Boys and Kane against Umaga, Finlay, MVP, Big Daddy V and Mr. Kennedy. These 10-man elimination matches are the cornerstone of Survivor Series. When I attended the first Series in 1987, every match on the show was like this. HHH and Misterio are likely to come out on top.

ECW Champion C.M. Punk vs. The Miz vs. John Morrison - Triple Threat match
Punk has really made his mark as the top man in ECW. Morrison has held the title before, and Miz is showing potential as a cocky jerk heel. It's amazing that the same Mike Mizanin who pretended to be a wrestler when he was on MTV's "The Real World: Back to New York" has actually become a credible WWE wrestler.

Hornswoggle vs. The Great Khali
Yes, this is someone's idea of a joke. I don't think any of us wonder who would win a fight between a giant and a leprechaun. So this would be a perfect time to use the restroom.

I had completely forgotten this is the 10th anniversary. Knowing Vince's obsession with the screwjob I think HBK is getting screwed in this one.
