In many households, the newest wave in television viewing is now catering to men. For women, the basic concept of SPIKE TV, a cable or satellite channel, television viewing, in the home at night, can become quite confusing especially in terms of the fight challenges. As a channel specifically designed for men, women are coming on board in signficiant numbers. To assist women in understanding the various fight enhanced programs, the following are three overviews of the most popular programs for evening viewing.
WWE:
A professional wrestling organization, the WWE acronymn stands for World Wrestling Entertainment. Most popular in North American, the WWE is truly a worldwide organization with fans based not only in the United States but also internationally. For many men, the WWE is viewed as a sport but, for most, it is considered a form of true entertainment. With dramatic displays and rivalries, male viewers of SPIKE TV will turn to WWE as a form of comedic entertainment. Previously held under a variety of organizational names, the WWE combines wrestling, drama and stunts with use of props in the one on one and team challenges. For this program, the fan base is primarily attached it the dramatic display of rivalries and may not, in most cases, be in tune with the wrestling itself. For women engaging in this television show, understanding the roles of the wrestling athletes and their connection to one another, will ensure a more pleasurable viewing experience.
TNA:
A variety sport program, TNA is an acronymn for Total Nonstop Action. While not specifically a sport, TNA is also commonly found on SPIKE TV and involves a variety of entertainment performances including NWA wrestling events and Street Fights. For this program, as female viewers, there is not a specific connection to any one wrestler or performer. This show, instead, lends its success to the variety. Additionally, because most TNA variety shows are not interconnected, missing one episode will not leave the television view in the dark in terms of story lines.
UFC:
Considered a high performance, mentally and physically challenging fight based program, UFC is the acryonymn for Ultimate Fighting Championship. Considered a serious and highly competitive combination approach to fighting, the UFC program combines martial arts of karate and jiu-jitsu in combination with boxing and wrestling. With competitions held in an eight sided arena, the UFC programming has become one of the top rated shows based on the reality of the characters. In this program, the individuals are selected from all backgrounds with varying athletic abilities. Unlike WWE, these are not actors or drama students. In the UFC, these are real fighters who have perfected the art of UFC fighting. For women, enjoying this program will involve regular television viewing, similar to that of any other reality television show, and a basic understanding of the martial arts involved.
For many families, spending the evening in front of the television has become mainstream. For families with cable television programming, SPIKE TV may become a commonly selected program for the entire family. While not designed with children and women in mind, SPIKE TVs viewer database consists, primarily, of men. For women, compromising television viewing so as to obtain quality time as a family, may involve educating oneself on the various television shows provided on SPIKE TV in the evening.
