WWE Vengeance: Night of Champions

Bruce Bostwick
WWE Vengeance has been dubbed the Night of Champions. It is the 1st time that all the championships will be defended in the ring. With 9 bouts coming up, there leaves to be questions as to who will win. John Cena has his work cut out for him but in big matches, he has stepped it up and been able to pull it off in the end. Mick Foley hasn't had a WWE Title shot since 2000 and is coming out of quiet retirement to wrestle this match. Does he have enough to get the job done and prove he still has it or has time passed him by? King Booker is just coming off his injury and now returns to Raw to claim the WWE Title for the 1st time ever. Can the King be able to rule the Raw brand and call it the Raw kingdom or will the king fail this time around? Randy Orton has been known as a Legend Killer and now a Concussion Giver. He is the youngest World Heavyweight Champion and wants to now add the WWE Title to his resume.

WWE Title-John Cena © vs. Bobby Lashley vs. King Booker vs. Randy Orton vs. Mick Foley

Right now it seems we have a bit of big match up. Randy Orton is going for his 2nd World Title; this time is the form of the WWE Title. It has been 3 years since he last held a World Title. He has been called The Legend Killer but lately he has gained a reputation of being the Concussion Giver. His odds of winning are not exactly very high just yet anyway. It would take much more time before something like that even happens. Mick Foley has lost just about every match he's been involved with since 2004. For him to be in it is a surprise, but it's not likely he's going to be a factor in the match. No one believes he could seriously win the WWE Title for a 4th time all ready. King Booker is a 6 time World Champion, 5 time WCW Champ and 1 time WWE World Heavyweight Champ. He just returned to Raw for the 1st time since 2004 before the draft and is looking to make an immediate impact. His odds of winning are slightly higher than Orton's at least I think it is. If he wins this, he could very well make history by being the 1st full black WWE Champion in history. Bobby Lashley actually has a legit chance of winning the title. He is currently coming off an ECW Title run after being stripped of it since he became an official member of the Raw roster. Despite the fact he was on Raw for a while during the whole Lashley/McMahon feud, he was an official member of the ECW roster. His chances are actually high of being champion. John Cena is currently the champ and everytime he's been in a big match, he's pulled off a victory. He just beat Khali and is looking invincible like nobody can beat him. It may not be built that way but that's how I see it. The odds of him retaining are very high considering he's actually beaten just about everyone you can name and also hasn't lost a PPV bout this year.

Winner: John Cena

WWE IC Title-Santino Marella© vs. Umaga

Umaga is getting his rematch for the title since he's no longer with Mr. McMahon. I can however see him actually losing but not cleanly though. He'll get himself disqualified and get out of control. Estrada is nowhere to be found until a later date. I'm going with Santino to win because he's probably going to be in a feud with William Regal over the IC Title.

Winner: Santino Marella

World Tag Team Titles-Cade & Murdoch © vs. Hardys

This one is going to be interesting to say the least. The Hardys have one last shot considering that Matt didn't get traded to Raw. If Matt is going to be a regular on Raw, then the Hardys will most likely get the tag team titles. I however don't see it that way as I think they are wanting to build Matt Hardy up as a contender for either the US or World Titles. I see Cade & Murdoch winning since they just won the belts not too long ago.

Winners: Cade & MurdochWoman's Title-Melina© vs. Candice

This build has been simple. Candice has beaten Melina in non-title matches on more than 1 occasion. The way it should happen is its time for a change and a new champion will be crowned. I'm going with Candice to win and see what she can do in the role of a champion. She has been built to the point to where she has to win otherwise, it will look like it will be all for not.

Winner: Candice

ECW World Title-Chris Benoit vs. CM Punk

I think this will be the match of the night and it will turn out to be really good. You got CM Punk, who is a fast rising star for the ECW Brand and could turn out to be one of the best matches on the entire night. Benoit is a World Champion in WWE and in WCW as well. He held the World Heavyweight Title, which has the history of the WCW Title together and also held the WCW World Title for a day. It has been 2 years since he last challenged for a World Title. For Benoit, this would be a new World Title to claim and he would be 1 more title away he could get later and that's the WWE Title. CM Punk has been built up from the Independent Wrestling Scene, most known in Ring of Honor, and is going for his 1st World Title in WWE. This is going to be either way but I'm going to learn more to Benoit for the win. The ECW Title hasn't really had much purpose as of late and with someone like Benoit, it could be restored. I wouldn't be disappointed if Punk won but I'd be surprised.

Winner: Chris Benoit

WWE World Heavyweight Title-Edge© vs. Batista

Edge is the reigning champion and has been called The Ultimate Opportunist. There is a reason for that. When he 1st won the WWE Title, he took it from John Cena using the Money in the Bank he won at Wrestlemania 21. He did it again taking it from RVD after knocking Cena out with the belt to get his 2nd WWE Title. He won the Money in the Bank from Mr. Kennedy and then used it to beat Undertaker to take the World Title away. Batista has been the only challenger and has been unable to capture the title. This is his last chance or else he fails and doesn't get another shot until Edge loses the belt. This is another match that could go in either direction but I think Edge for some reason will win. I believe Batista will be off Smackdown and go to Raw for a guy to be named later. On the other hand, Batista could win and he'd have Edge, Mark Henry, and Khali after him. It could either direction but I say Edge keeps the title. I could see a possibility of Batista winning via DQ because of that stipulation with Edge. But I still say Edge for sure.

Winner: Edge

WWE US Title-MVP © vs. Ric Flair

Flair is mentioned as a 16-time champion though he probably won it 22-24 times in his career. He also is the only man in history to have ever held the NWA, WCW, and WWE World Titles. You name a title; he's held it at some point in his career. He's been US Champ before so he knows what its like to be a champion. I could see him actually losing because MVP just got the belt and I think the plan for him is to be a long-term champion. MVP is coming off his big feud with Chris Benoit and hasn't looked back since. He could get himself Dqed to keep the belt but I do see him winning but only via dirty tactic.

Winner: MVP

WWE Cruiserweight Title-Chavo Guerrero© vs. Jimmy Wang Yang

This one is pretty obvious, as I believe Yang is going to get it. Chavo hasn't done anything with the belt at all lately and its time for a change. Yang has been teased about getting the title but has not gotten it but this time it will happen. He will not lose this time and will become the new champion. Keep in mind that Jimmy Yang has beaten Chavo Guerrero in non-title matches so given the build; it is the same way as with the Woman's Title mentioned above. If he does not win, then the build was all for not but this one I see a change happening.

Winner: Jimmy Wang Yang

WWE Tag Team Titles-Deuce & Domino © vs. ??

This one doesn't have an official match but I'm projecting it to be The Major Brothers. There's no other team on Smackdown left and they just got drafted from ECW. I don't see a title change in this considering the fact that there is little to no build at all and no interaction between the two teams. Expect Deuce & Domino to retain but expect this to continue even after the PPV.

Winners: Deuce & Domino

That's all about Vengeance as I have covered all the bouts and it is the Night of Champions. This looks to be a solid card but anything can happen. This PPV could be good and it also could be bad. Only time will tell.
