WWE's Great American Bash Thoughts

Bruce Bostwick
The Great American Bash has come and gone but now the question is how was the PPV. It wasn't worth $40 to be quite honest. It had more cons than it did pros. To understand it, there were expectations that were set and most of the champions were heels and there weren't that many changes in the 1st place. The matches themselves depending on viewpoint was one of those moments that you either liked it or you didn't in the 1st place. To start this off, let's go with the negatives and go on a positive note in the end.

Negatives

Where to begin with that exactly is pretty much as a whole the title matches were mostly kept on the same champions mostly being on the heels. The US Title could have easily had a title change and it could have worked but that obviously wasn't in the cards and it seems that the build for it was to make Matt Hardy look like a choker nevertheless. It's like they put him in a big match and now all of a sudden, he chokes at the opportunity. If that is going to be the build, then why bother in the 1st place. Unless this feud with MVP is continuing then they dropped the ball with Matt on this one. The Bullrope wasn't even a real bullrope match in the 1st place. Aren't the rules usually touching the ring corners of the match? Instead, we got mostly a Hardcore match that the only way to win was by pinfall or submission. Talk about lame right now and the match was way too predictable as to who would win between Dusty Rhodes and Randy Orton. The IC Title of course should have had a new champion right there. What is Umaga going to do with the belt seriously? There is just nothing that can be actually thought of other than just being some strap just to look pretty. The World Title match for Smackdown was really lame. The Great Khali wins and it should have been more of a transitional champion. Realistically, he won't lose the belt in a one on one encounter. What are they going to wait for? The reigning WWE Champion John Cena to come by and beat this guy in a title for title match? The ECW Title was like what was that it just ended so suddenly. There is no one else that is built up to challenge now John Morrison for the belt other than CM Punk. If they had given it to Punk, which hopefully they do in the end, there would be more challengers on the heel side than the face side. Of course, a glitch in digital cable was there during the whole Woman's Match. Not so much the match's fault but that was really bad that it did that. One last note, Sandman and Carlito was just a waste of time. What was the point in the Singapore cane match exactly, just for giggles? Seriously, what a waste of time and if they were going to have Carlito win without using it, they could have done without it and what was up with Sandman not doing his trademark entrance? That was just weird.

Positives

There were some bright spots though to this PPV. The funniest moment was Hornswoggle taking the Cruiserweight Title without even realizing he was in the match the whole time. He won with a mini frog splash becoming the smallest champion in history though it was the Cruiserweight Title. Jimmy Yang has come across as just a guy who chokes in big matches but that didn't take away from the bout. The Cena vs. Lashley bout was actually pretty entertaining. While it would have been interested if Lashley had actually won the belt but the finish was all right. At least he didn't submit so that actually was a plus. It was a good ending to the PPV.

OverallWhile this was better than some of the other Great American Bash PPVs since the revival, it however wasn't a great PPV. It wasn't worth the $40 but if you want to get the DVD, then go for it. Probably not something that would be a very high recommendation considering the fact that it was a PPV and paying for the action should have a higher standard than a regular show on TV.
