www.magickeys.com/books/ : Great Interactive Site for Beginning or Reluctant Readers!

Susan Pettrone
My youngest son enjoys reading, he always has, However early on, he was not advancing at the same rate as some of his classmates were due to self esteem problems, shyness and reluctance to fail. Appreciating all his teacher had done in first grade to help him advance, yet knowing the problems schools have in reaching every child in every way, I began to research ways I could not only help my son with his growth but so he could be more independent in his learning as well.

Magickeys.com was brought to my attention and after testing it for a short time with my son, we found it is a gem in the rough and in fact a site I suspect few know about and utilize all it offers. That said, I'm about to change all that right now!

Magickeys.com is a site where the child is entertained AND taught through wonderful stories such as "The Witches Stew", "Three Big Pigs" and "farm Animals" to name a few. These stories are wonderfully animated and begin the first section of many on the site. Having stories and sections for categories of: Young Children, Older Children, and Young Adult as well available, this site covers a broad range of abilities, ages and interests.

The stories fit a broad range of not only ages but interests and quite frankly, I can see how easily a child can grow and expand his/her reading base just by exploring and enjoying this site. It definitely surpasses plain old pencil and paper word learning and I observed, teaches basics and concepts in a friendly, non stressful manner for kids. And it's fun too!

My son found it to be a great adventure for a young reader to check out the ever growing lists of stories available. As his reading skills grew and he felt more confident, he found more and more at his fingertips to interact with, and that alone was a fantastic part of this site. To think that a site can not only teach but help a child's fragile sense of self was a bonus I hadn't counted upon when he began on the site!

I encourage all parents of young readers to check out this site to help your child feel more comfortable with reading and parents of older children (and adults too) I encourage you to check out this site and see how it can broaden your reading abilities as well.

In this day and age of mindless computer, I give this site a thumbs up for its simple design, its ability to capture and keep a child's interest and for its ability to teach as well as entertain!
