X & O European Trattoria

Restaurant Review Written in March 2005

I came to this restaurant with my mom and was very impressed. I ordered a very tasty and extremely delicious Neapolitan eggplant pizza (the best pizza that I have ever ordered & eaten). The waitress was very friendly (service with a smile). The ambiance transported me and my mom to a small perfectly exquisite upscale restaurant somewhere in Europe. My mom ordered a salad and was delighted in how it tasted. The prices were not too extravagant - really not expensive at all. The mood & vibe of the restaurant was quiet and made for a fine dining experience. The restrooms were conveniently accessible (from/to our table) and very clean indeed. Parking did pose to be a little bit of problem since there were not many spaces both on the side street and on the main street. However the restaurant is convenient to public transportation - a short walk from the (MBTA) red line (Quincy Center T Station) and, most importantly, X & O is handicap accessible. At the end of our meal, my mom and I were getting ready to leave our fining dining experience when the chef & owner came over to us and started to reminisce about the early days of her business, the food industry in general, why she chose the business' present location (Quincy, MA), the origin of the business, and who she was before she became a chef and an entrepreneur (an owner). My mom and this lovely lady traded business cards and got to know each other a little bit better by speaking with each other for about 20 - 25 minutes. Even two of the waitresses were joining in on the conversation, which, I might add, many people couldn't help, but notice. My mom started to talk to the entrepreneur about herself and what she did for a living and they both soon realized that the two of them had a lot in common. My mom has always loved Greek food and Italian food and she mentioned this to the entrepreneur, whom was just taken aback, and offered the both of us baklava, an extremely very sweet home made treat, as a thank you for our kindness and for doing business with them. The entrepreneur gave me a business card too and became our best friend. We both told her that we would surely be back again and that we would, without a doubt, tell our friends and family members about X & O. My mom and I have never experienced such kindness and such genuine warmth as we both experienced on the day when we both dined in this loving & caring atmosphere that the entrepreneur calls home. Food is home made and hand made with absolutely no artificial ingredients or substances. When one walks in X & O, he/she feels like that they are stepping into a remote restaurant in Greece and/or Italy. The waitresses are cheerful and the restaurant patrons are sociable & affable. Everyone who comes to dine at X & O, definitely, make X & O their home away from home. It's a place to sit back, relax, and enjoy a home cooked meal (The Old Fashioned Greek & Italian Way). Succinctly stated, my mom & I were treated with the utmost respect possible and we were welcomed with open arms. X & O European Trattoria, in my book & estimation, is one of the finest restaurants south of Boston, MA and we've been to many mom & pop places that didn't come as close to our hearts' content as X & O. For overall service, my mom & I give X & O European Trattoria a perfect A +. No question about it, we both would, definitely, come back (& bring other people) to X & O in a heartbeat.
