There was an RCA commercial I remember from a billion years ago that advertised something called the rabbit. It was a device that would duplicate whatever was on one TV onto another somewhere else. With that commercial ingrained in my memory, I knew there was such a device that would allow me to watch TV in another room, without buying another receiver. After lots and lots of searching on the internet, I found something called the X10 audio/video sender.
Looking at the X10 company website you would probably think that it was pure desperation that brought me to purchase from such a company. Just looking at the cluttered, busy and loud website will make you feel spam loading in your email box. After seeing their website I was really worried about giving them my email address, none the less credit card information. At the time I did lots of research to try to ease or validate my fears. I ended up finding many people who felt the same way about their website, but were brave enough to order and were happy they did.
My email company allows me to create alias email addresses, that goes to my normal inbox, to give to companies or people I think might spam me. So, if they do I can just delete the address, without loosing my main address. Even with the rave reviews I still wanted to go in cautiously, so I gave them one of my alias addresses. All in all, my order went smoothly and safely and surprisingly, never did get any extra spam after my order, despite the horridness of the website.
The X10 audio/video sender comes with all the cable you will need, for older and newer TV's and is very easy to hook up. It can control just about anything. In addition to satellite receivers, it will work on DVD players and Tivos, allowing you to watch DVD movies or Tivo recording on another TV without having another DVD player or Tivo. All you have to do is hook up one of the transmitters to the device you want to view in another room and the other transmitter to the TV in the room without the device. Point the round flat antenna toward the area in the room where your TV is and you are done. The signal will go through the wall and give you a clear video and audio signals in a completely different room.
The X10 audio/video sender cost me about $49, with free shipping. It came with a free 5 in 1 learning remote, that will also control lights and appliances in your house, if you buy a home automation thing they sell. I never bought it, but it is a normal universal remote too. I can't say much about it, because I couldn't get it to work with my satellite. Plus, my satellite service has so many extra features, a universal remote wouldn't really work anyway. So, I just bought an extra satellite remote to control my receiver in the other room.
I have had my X10 audio/video sender for about 3 years and it is still working just fine, knock on wood. Even if it did die out today I wouldn't hesitate to buy one again. The picture it sends to the other TV is just as clear as on the main TV. Despite the appalling website I received great service and a wonderful product.
