Xerox Phaser 6110 MFP Review

Paul Mann
Are you looking for a great multifunctional printer that offers reliability and quality, while allowing you to copy, scan, and fax? Look no further than Xerox's Phaser 6110 MFP. It begins at $649, but for the fax capability it is $749.

To start off with the bad portions of this printer (besides the price, but Xerox always has more expensive, and much better, equipment than other companies) we will talk about it's PPM. For those who do not recognize the acronym, it stands for Pages Per Minute, and leaves little to the imagination. It just means how many pages the printer can print out per minute.

The 6110 MFP has rather low end speeds, so if you are looking for high speed capabilities you will have to look for their higher end models. For color prints, you can expect a slim 4 PPM. Black and white is a little better, clocking in at 17 PPM. Not to mention that actually starting the thing to print takes about another minute (rather standard actually, but still annoying). Since this model is meant for office use, you will most likely be using the black and white more than color printing, so this shouldn't hinder your work at all, but nonetheless the speed does leave much to be desired, especially for the price.

For maximum page size, it can take legal paper (8.5x14). Considering that 8.5x11 paper is most common in America, this will also cause no hindrance to your work. The legal size capability will probably be seldom used, unless you are working in a law field where this paper size is more often required.

The maximum amount of paper that can be placed into the printer, without any additional options placed onto the printer, is 150 pages. So refilling the printer will be infrequent.

Most useful of all the special print features is collation (nothing special, but incredibly useful for document copying), a reduce/enlarge function, and 2-Up or 4-Up. For those unaware of 2-Up or 4-Up printing, that means that it will take a business card for example, and with a simple click, print it two or four times on one sheet of paper. This can also be very useful, and comes stock with the 6110.

Comparative to its size, the 6110 is relatively light weight. Clocking in at a little over 45 lbs, you will need some muscle to move this machine, but it won't break your back and can easily go from room to room if needed, so moving is an easy task.

While I think that the PPM could be higher, you are getting a great deal with this printer. Great reliability and usability, great functions, and a powerful printer. It can deliver quality results, and function as a copier, scanner, and fax machine all at once. I suggest this model for office use, but not for commercial, print job use.
