X-Factor - Five Reasons to Get Excited Over the Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul Reunion

Like Mac and Cheese or Laurel and Hardy, some things in life work best when they are thrown together. To that list of classics you might as well addSimon Cowell and Paula Abdul . Sure, they seemed to provide a constant source of irritation to one another when they were teamed together for years on American Idol . But let's face it that was part of the beauty of the show. On nights when the singing was at best karaokeish, you could always count of the acid-tongued Simon to find a way of getting under Paula's skin. You could also count on Paula getting flustered by Simon's constant attacks and prattling on incoherently in return. It made for good television. So much so, that the two of them are back together again in the new television show "X-factor." Here then are five good reasons to get excited about the best television reunion of the year.

Paula has an Allied in Cheryl Cole
Unlike American Idol which pitted one girl judge against two male judges, Paula will be teaming up Cheryl Cole on "X-factor" this time around. According to "The Sun," this new alliance has made a pact to annoy the infamous Mr. Cowell. The all-girl tag team will provide a fresh take on a tried and true plotline and television fans will no doubt love the results.

Paula as a Mentor
With her history of going gaga over hunky male singers, having Paula play the role of a mentor may not be the brightest idea in the world. Still, it will make for good television; the type of television that makes celebrities out of reality show contestants. Even more interesting would be to see if the 48 year old Abdul can manipulate herself into mentoring some young hunky singers. Can you say, "Cougar?"

Absence Makes the Heart Grow Fonder
After being apart for a few years, both Paula and Simon realize that their on air love/hate affair is something that they have both missed. Simon has stated," I have missed her a lot, and I am thrilled she's on the show." While Paula has gushed back, "I am delighted and grateful to be sitting next to Simon again" So has absence made the heart grow fonder? You betcha! This can only mean that their on air love/hate relationship will be that much more emotionally charged this year.

Competition for American Idol
America needs a counter-balance to the fawning over contestants that has taken over "American Idol" this year. So for those fans who miss the days when judges on talent shows weren't afraid to criticize contestants, Simon is back. And in Paula, Simon has found his muse, his reason to take his acid-tongued comments to the next level. So move over "American Idol," there is a new show in town.

America Loves a Good Reunion
Why are music bands from the 70's and 80 still on tour? Simple, it's because everyone is a sucker for a good reunion. America loves to see the triumphant return of those things they once loved. That's why has-been television stars of the 80's end up on reality shows these days. That is also why Simon and Paula Part II, should be along the same lines as "Godfather Part II," simply great. Perhaps years from now when they are both in their 60's, they will both be part of a new show to make it a trilogy, but for now, let's all enjoy the ride of this years greatest reunion.
