X-Men Origins: Wolverine - Due 2009

The new movie is due to be directed by Gavin Hood and is set to be released on May 1st 2009. This movie will focus on Wolverine, which will thrill many fans of the X-Men saga. For those not familiar with the character, Wolverine is a mutant with regenerative powers. Three claws spring from his hands, bursting through his skin when needed. His skeleton is laced and bonded with the metal adanantium, the hardest metal known to mankind.

Wolverine's past has intrigued and delighted fans of the series through the years, long before X-Men ever exploded onto the big screen and in this movie he struggles to explore his past. Desperate to find the answers. The movie is reported to be set seventeen years prior to the first X-Men movie and centers on his complex relationship with Victor Creed, also known as Sabretooth who appeared in the first movie. As well as his earlier encounters with William Stryker, who was one of the central figures in X-Men 2, and his dealings with the Weapon X program.

Recent announcements also revealed that William Stryker will be played by CSI actor Liev Schreiber (who plays Mike Keppler). Aside from CSI Schrieber has also appeared in movies such as Scream, The Manchurian Candidate and the recent remake of The Omen.

Hugh Jackman will be playing Wolverine, as he has in the previous three movies and, no doubt, will continue to delight fans in the part.

X-Men made its debut in the comic book world through Marvel comics in 1963, and launched into the hands of fans in X-men #1. The series was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. I didn't stumble across X-Men until the late 70's around my eighth birthday and for many a long year I scrimped and saved my pennies so I could collect the comics. Over the years I've stopped buying the comics, but have been delighted to watch the movies and indulge in my fix that way. I know I'm not the only one who will be watching and waiting for this new movie, hoping they will continue to feed the closet addicts who had to stop the comic book collection years ago. As well as capture the attention of new fans such as my children. I have to admit, one of the fun things about the movies, to me, is being able to watch them with my children and see their eyes light up at the events as they unfold on the screen. If the new Origins: Wolverine movie is a success I have to wonder which of the other X-Men will then be treated to an Origins movie?

The original team?

Storm perhaps?

Will we be granted the chance to see the first team?

Or will they dart forward and introduce the New Mutants?

Sorry guys for this fan, 2009 is too long to wait!
