Yahoo! Contributor Network to Hire 400,000 People: One Writer's Pay Details

A Four-year Associated Content Veteran Shares Her Success with the Website

Paula Neal Mooney
Today while perusing my PayPal account, my eyes paused over something I'd never seen before: Payment From Yahoo! Contributor Network.

At first I thought it was a happy mistake, or that I'd written something and sold something I'd forgotten about -- with the immediate intent to track down the source of my success.

Turns out Associated Content, a site that I began writing for back in August 2006, just as my son was entering kindergarten and I gained more writing time, was now named Yahoo! Contributor Network.

Admittedly, I hadn't written for the site in a good little while (gotta get back on there soon!) and I even had to search around a little to find my own page:

http://contributor.yahoo.com/user/user17770paulanealmooney

I knew Yahoo! had purchased Associated Content, but I had no idea that the Yahoo! Contributor Network plans to add 400,000 contributors of the written word, video and the like in the wake of the acquisition.

So this is exciting.

I've written 140 articles for "AC" -- as we used to call them -- in the four years I've belonged to the site, logging on as user #17,770 -- don't know if that's totally sequential, but it gives you an idea of how many folks had found and applied to write for the site back then.

In those four years, thank God, my pageviews of all my articles for them have swelled to nearly 4 million, and I've pocketed nearly $14k thus far from the site.

I'm one comment shy of 4,000 thousand comments received (funny how only nearly 400 of them have been posted -- geez, what are these people writing?) and am seriously wanting to get back to writing for them.

Most of all I'm pretty happy at the direction the whole user generated media field has taken -- despite what others may think about the medium, it keeps on chugging forward.

That is amazing going, I wonder how your traffic is doing now after the recent shake-ups at Google. I have been on AC since January 2010, published 666 articles (spooky!) to date, and earned abouit $600. Traffic in the last several months has just plummeted, and I am wondering if it's Google, the changes at YCN since Yahoo took over, or am I just trying too hard and failing to hit the mark.

Nice work, Paula! I'm a "veteran" too, and have been here since 2007.

I'm not sure if I'm glad or sad yet. But I can tell you my page views are better but I think it's due to marketing really. The updates seem to take a little bit longer for some reason, but I guess it's more getting used to a new system than anything. I hope I'm as successful as you - good luck and I'll keep reading!

Hey Paula, I was going to email you myself... the TOS seems different, you might want to check on the sign in to keep earning residuals clause. Glad to see you doing so well.
