Yahoo Domains Compared to Other Popular Registrars

Buying a domain at yahoo ? It is certainly a very popular place to get a domain. It is a fairly average price compared to other domain registrars. But what about the overall picture ? What about customer service, if you happen to have a question or a problem ? What about ease of changing the Nameservers once you put your site online ? Lets compare the basic features of domains at yahoo with other popular registrars.

Domains at yahoo are about $9.95 a year. Currently they are having a special for $1.99 for first time buyers, with very limited services available at this low price. Another popular place godaddy.com is about a dolllar less for the ".com" variety of domains. Namecheap.com is about $8.88.

There are places where you can get your domain for a little less, or a little more. Some will charge you about $35 dollars ( register .com ) and some will give you one for nearly free if you jump through some hoops for them. Prices for domains at yahoo are not an outstanding feature if price is important to you. You could save some money by buying somewhere else.

The basic features of email forwarding, domain forwarding and others are included with domains at yahoo. Domain locking, and a complementary display page on the web are also standard with domains at yahoo. If you choose the $1.99 special, you may not be able to transfer your new yahoo domain to another registrar. If this feature is important to you, please check out your other many options for a domain purchase.

What are some of the negative aspects of buying domains at yahoo ? Some have complained of bad customer service. There is no way for me to verify this, as I use another domain registrar that has excellent customer service. Online customer reviews by such as PCmag and others give ambiguous reviews of customer service for domains at yahoo.

Getting a domain at yahoo is something I would be careful with. If you already have a free email account with them, you will already have much of your personal information available to yahoo. If your personal privacy is important to you, and you already have a free email account, it may be better to go with another domain vendor such as Namecheap.

Godaddy is one very popular place, but as some have noticed like I have, they are heavily involved in marketing to their customers. I dont like being "pitched" to myself, but if this is not a problem, godaddy is still a second choice to many who have been online for quite a while.

Over all domains at yahoo are popular simply because it is "Yahoo". I would recommend taking a shopping trip online, do some valuable searching at google including the search terms "review" and "customer service" with the words "domains yahoo" ( Do not forget the quotation marks ! )included in the search terms. The worst you could do is save yourself some problems or time with your future web site or domain.

Great info, I got my site from a local provider and with the fact that they are very close to where I live and it is small, the customer service is great.
