Yankees-Angels ALCS Game 6 Set for Rainy Night

Robert Dougherty
The Yankees-Angels ALCS Game 6 is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. est today. Whether the Yankees-Angels Game 6 would end on time, or even end before tomorrow night, is unclear. The Yankees-Angels Game 6 should have the two teams front and center, as the Yankees try to finally close an ALCS, and the Angels look to continue a grand comeback. But the Yankees-Angels ALCS Game 6 has to share the spotlight with the rain, and possibly get flooded by it.

Ominous forecasts for rain throughout the day and night in New York are still going on. As such, the Yankees-Angels Game 6 could have a hard time getting completed tonight and early tomorrow morning. Or at the least, the two teams will have to play through the rain, like they did in extra innings of Game 2 last Sunday morning.

The usual complaints that the Yankees-Angels Game 6 should start in the afternoon, instead of at night, may not be as loud this time. There is no real rain-free window today, so things may be rainy no matter when Game 6 would start. Of course, if the rain is much heavier tonight than it is in the afternoon, then Bud Selig and FOX would be in trouble.

The rain is falling in New York, but it is a little light so far. Although there is a 90-100% chance of rain throughout tonight for the Yankees-Angels Game 6, they can still go on if it isn't that heavy. Of course, if there is a rain delay or two, that could affect the game and the pitching plans.

The Yankees-Angels ALCS Game 6 will try to start and finish on time, although the teams have to prepare for what happens if the game isn't played today. If Game 6 is moved to tomorrow night, then a possible Game 7 would be on Monday - leaving the winner with one day of rest before facing the Phillies in the World Series.

If Game 6 goes to Sunday, Yankees' manager Joe Girardi still insists that Andy Pettitte would start, and not C.C. Sabathia on three days rest. But if that happens, and Sabathia then has to start a Game 7 on Monday, he couldn't pitch in the World Series until Game 3, which would be a big break for the Phillies.

Of course, that assumes that the Yankees will ultimately win the ALCS, The Angels still have something to say about that, although few still think they can win two straight at Yankee Stadium. But all it takes is a win in Game 6 to even the ALCS - whether tonight or tomorrow - and then all bets are off for a winner-take-all Game 7.

For now, it looks like the Yankees-Angels Game 6 is set to start on time at 7:57 p.m. est on FOX.
