Yankees-Phillies Score Controlled by Phillies, Cliff Lee

Robert Dougherty
The Yankees-Phillies Game 1 score would either be very high or low. Ultimately, the Yankees-Phillies score was too low for the Yankees. The Yankees-Phillies score barely moved in the first seven innings, with only two Chase Utley home runs. But the Yankees-Phillies Game 1 score was put away when the Phillies got to the Yankees bullpen, leading to a 6-1 win. In truth, the World Series Game 1 score was decided with Utley's second home run, given how Cliff Lee was dealing.

The Yankees-Phillies score was pretty low, considering how the two champions like to slug it out. But both teams had their big time aces, Cliff Lee and C.C. Sabathia. However, Sabathia was tested from the start and ultimately broke twice, whereas Lee held serve until it was too late for the Yankees.

The Yankees-Phillies Game 1 score only had two blows in the first seven innings - Chase Utley's two home runs in the third and sixth. Sabathia was pushed to the brink for the first time this postseason, but he kept the Yankees in Game 1. But thanks to Cliff Lee, the Yankees barely threatened to come back.

The World Series Game 1 score finally got out of hand when the Phillies got to the Yankees bullpen. For all the worries about the Phillies troubled pen, the defending champions have knocked around the other team's relief core in each playoff series. With two insurance runs each in the eighth and ninth, Lee had all the support he needed for a six hit, one unearned run complete game - and two highlight reel catches.

Although the Yankees-Phillies score had little offensive highlights, Lee more than made up for it. From the very first at bat, in which Derek Jeter struck out on three pitches, Lee was in total control. Although Jeter then got three straight hits, the rest of the Yankees only had three hits themselves, with Alex Rodriguez striking out three times.

The Yankees-Phillies score was big for Philadelphia, as they got the one win they wanted in New York. Now they can do what they didn't do last year, and win two World Series games on the road.

To do that, Pedro Martinez has to match Lee tonight, with A.J. Burnett trying to do better than Sabathia. If Martinez comes through, and the Phillies go up 2-0, dreams of fulfilling Jimmy Rollins 5-game victory prediction will run through Philadelphia.

As for Cliff Lee, the Yankees-Phillies score lowered his postseason era to almost 0.50, a playoff record for a starter. It is still unclear whether Lee would next start in Game 4 or 5 - but if the Phillies win two of the next three, Lee can wrap up another championship in Game 5 at home. However, the Yankees' bats still have designs on waking up and evening the series tonight, starting at 7:57 p.m. on FOX.

Looks like Yankees in six or it could go all the way. Might be a series to remember.
