Yankton, South Dakota is a small border town known for it's water sports. After a day at the lake, you will not go hungry. While the town is not known for fancy restaurants, a variety of laid back restaurants and drive inn's will fill you up.

The Black Steer is a fine family restaurant in Yankton, SD. The Setting: Total Supper Club feel from the 1970's. With it's dark interior and carpet that should have been replaced in 1979, it may not be modern, but the food is unmistakeably good. The servers will bring around those old fashioned carts with several different types of salad dressing for your iceberg lettuce salad. The restaurant features steaks, chicken, and one of the best pork chops I've ever had. You get 2 fine boneless pork chops, each tender and juicy. Try this place for some good old fashioned family fun. Make sure to reserve plenty of time for your dinner though; service is sometimes quite slow. The restaurant is located at 300 East 3rd Street in Yankton.

While the Black Steer is one of Yankton's only supper clubs/ "fine dining", Yankton does offer many quick lunch spots. The Tastee Treat is a great old fashioned drive-in in Yankton, SD. It is located at 413 West 4th St. Tastee Treat features a "loose meat sandwich". When my fiancee and I first started dating, he couldn't wait to take me to the Tasty Treat. The loose meat sandwich is good. It is not a bbq sandwich, it is loose seasoned beef without a sauce. It is still very flavorful though (without a sauce) and can be made even better with ketchup (or mustard). The drive in also features fantastic shakes, fries, burgers, and ice cream. They have a drive up feature where you can eat in your car, just like the good ole days. You can also eat inside or at a few picnic tables outside. This restaurant is definitely worth a stop. It will take you back to the 1950's.

Another quick lunch or dinner can be found at Bonanza! Yes, Yankton offers this familiar buffet restaurant. Bonanza! It's a restaurant you may remember from your childhood. What is Bonanza? Well, it's the ultimate buffet restaurant. It's part classy, part just buffet. I say classy because you actually order a entree first (say a steak fillet or a cheeseburger), THEN you get to go for the salad bar and hot food buffet, including chicken wings and meatballs. To finish off your meal, there's the soft serve ice cream. Bonanza is never top quality food, but it will fill you up. Grandparents love Bonanza, bring them here. The Bonanza in Yankton is in the parking lot of the town's major mall at 2409 Broadway Ave, so you can catch a movie or check out sales to work off the multiple calories from buffet food.

If you are looking for a fantastic pizza place, you must check out Charlie's Pizza in Yankton. Located at 804 Summit Street, the local pizza parlor has been a favorite for decades. The decor has also been around for decades, but the place has a kitschy feel. This place is popular with every age group. It's perfect for a first date, a 70th date, or a family meal. The restaurant features its homemade pizza. It is seriously one of the best pizzas I have ever had. The crust is a medium thickness, and the cheese and toppings are fresh and delicious. When this restaurant is busy, you will have to wait for your pizza. Remain patient; it is definitely worth the wait. Check out Charlie's Pizza's arcade or full bar while waiting for your Italian pie.

Whether you are interested in a hearty steak, a "loose meat sandwich", a buffet meal, or a pizza, Yankton, South Dakota will offer you comfort food at it's best.
