Yarn Christmas Tree Centerpiece

Ann Siper
This Christmas tree centerpiece is made from simple yarn, just like you would knit a scarf from! You can make a variety of different Christmas tree centerpieces for the family dinner table depending on the type of yarn you choose.

Try making about 15 different sized Christmas tree centerpieces and lining the fireplace mantel with them. You could also group them in the center of the coffee table fro a simple Christmas tablescape!

To Make Christmas tree Centerpieces from Yarn You Will Need:

Yarn

Liquid Star

Gold beads

Needle

Thread

Scissors

Cardboard cone

Go ahead and cut out about 30 pieces of yarn to about ten feet long. You will also need about 10 small 6 inch piece of yarn.

Group the 30 pieces into one long thick coil. Lay a short piece of yarn on the end and tie the coil together into one piece. Repeat this every one foot on the coil of thirty pieces of yarn.

You can add more small pieces as needed.

Now, pour your liquid bleach into a plastic tub. I like to do this outside, because it can get a little messy here.

Now, take your long thick coil or rope of yarn and dip the whole thing into the liquid starch. Soak it thoroughly. The yarn may take a second or two to start soaking up the liquid starch, especially if it is made of synthetic material.

Now, pull one end of the coil of the liquid starch. Star on the bottom of the cardboard cone and start wrapping the coil around the cone. You can pin the bottom end into the cone to hold it in place.

Once you reach the top of the cone you can cut off any excess coil. Let this dry completely now.

Now, once the stiff yarn has dried you want to pull the cone shape out.

Tip: To make that cone just take a piece of poster board and wrap it into a cone shape. Trim the ends so it can stand up straight. Tape the side to hold it into the cone shape. Use duct tape.

You may also want to plastic wrap you cone so the yarn does not stick.

Now, time to add some shine to the yarn Christmas tree. You can use puff paint in gold to add beads randomly n the lines of the Christmas tree. These are simple elegant looking ornaments. Beads can also be glued onto the surface of the Christmas tree centerpiece as well!

These are very nice ideas. However I am a very visual person so photos of the project would be very helpful for me.

If you read further in the instructions, it states: Liquid starch, so the bleach must be a typo. Good Luck!

Maybe I'm missing something here - but what is the bleach for? "Now, pour your liquid bleach into a plastic tub"
