Year Long Disaster Takes a Bit Too Long to Get Going

Band Needs to Find Their Footing

David Carr
Sometimes it's tough to "rock" on a Monday night and some bands find that out the hard way. Year Long Disaster is a three piece hard rock outfit steeped in the blues and groove music. Sadly, it was the groove that was lacking at their record release show at the Troubadour. The band has all of the right moving parts; heavy guitar, tight rhythm section and even a video screen showing bizarre film clips. What they need to do now is get these moving parts to gel together. Even when lead vocalist/guitarist Daniel Davies (son of Dave Davies of The Kinks) got to take the stage by himself with just his guitar there really was no dynamic change. The group may reveal a bit of edginess on their latest disc (Black Magic: All The Mysteries Revealed) but whatever edge they have was kept under wraps during their performance. The group has a fascination with magic and ritual. They may need to conjure up a bit of that sorcery in order to make fans true believers. Again, it could have been the Monday night blues or it could be Year Long Disaster is in itself, just a well meaning two minute commotion.
