Yellow Cab
Price: Yellow Cab is known throughout the Denver metro area as the priciest cab in town. It recently had a rate increase by a margin of 25 cents, which the company said would enable them to improve their dispatch system and add more handicapped-friendly vehicles. However, a bulk of the rate increase (80% to be exact) is actually going to drivers to assist with the increasing cost of gas. Yellow Cab drivers charge$2.25 per mile after charging $2.50 for the first one-ninth mile. Other charges apply including 37.5 cents a minute when the traffic is moving at 15 miles per hour or less, and extra charges for luggage.
Punctuality: Consumers prefer Yellow Cab to Metro Cab on the basis of punctuality. Many complain that Metro takes so long or never get there. And even though Metro is cheaper than Yellow Cab, a lot of people prefer to take the pricey ride on Yellow Cab than wait long hour or more waiting for a Metro Cab that may or may not show up.
Availability: There are many cab drivers available in the Denver area as in the nation as a whole. Just call for your next pick-up.
Service: Yellow Cab offers 20% rate reduction when you and another passenger share a taxi ride to the same place. They also offer "point to point courier service" and deliver your small packages on time. More importantly, as you exit the Denver International Airport (DIA) Yellow Cab's Super Shuttle is there to whisk you to Boulder ten minutes past each hour. You don't have to worry about sitting in traffic with this super fast shuttle. They have 24 hours 7 days a week hotline for booking. Another service offered by Yellow Cab is the Taxi Cash Card that enables you to avoid carrying cash with you but instead use a prepaid card to pay for your ride. It is a great way to limit the amount of cash you carry, and you can buy cards as gifts to friends and family during the holidays, birthdays, or other special occasions.
Metro Cab
Price: Metro Cab charges $2.60 for the first one-eighth mile. It charges additional 25 cents for another one-eight for an average of $2 a mile. Other charges such a luggage and extra passenger apply.
Punctuality: As far as punctuality, riders complain that Metro Taxi's in Denver do not arrive on time. Some complain that they were forgotten and never picked up while others said it took over an hour to get a ride. However, you need to judge for yourself and take a first ride, and then make your own decision
Availability: Metro has nearly 500 taxis in the Denver area so availability is not a problem. They are switching to Hybrid cars, which is great for the environment. If you always wanted to make an impact on the environment but do not know how to start, ride a Metro hybrid taxi car. You will be helping cut down carbon burning and thus reduce the impact that green house gases have on the ozone layer, and the whole global warming concerns.
Service: Metro offers 24 hours, 7 days a week service of pick-ups, drop-offs, door-to door package delivery, as well as services from the Denver International Airport. Because they have state of the art, modern computer dispatch technology with global positioning system (GPS), they are able to find the nearest Metro Taxi so that you are picked up from your location quickly and efficiently. A lot of their drivers have taken a voluntary one-hour training specifically geared towards refreshing their drivers with information about Denver so that they can serve as tourist guides for the upcoming Democratic National Convention later this month.
