Yes, Iago, There is a God

Iago
Dear Editor,

I'm middle aged and some of my friends tell me there is no God. They say with all the pain and suffering in the world it would be impossible for a higher being to allow this to happen. Please tell me the truth, is there a God?

Iago

Iago, your beaten down middle aged friends are jaded. They need to have a drink and loosen up. Their lives are spinning out of control and skepticism has infected their very being. Poisoned by inability to think non-gravitationally, minds can sour with age and focus on only what is visible. Real focus takes us on journeys beyond earth and into a realm of infinite energy. The mind sees what it wants to see, but there are more things in this universe so complex, so intricate, as to suggest there is more at hand than we can vision or understand.

Yes Iago, we are strewn with doubt in everyday life. There is much suffering and malice toward men. But what about love, devotion and the beauty of existence as witnessed everyday by real human experience? Doesn't God exist in all great facets and measures of human sacrifice, animal sacrifice and all living things? Is not sacrifice and suffering a means to a greater end and therefore not have been performed in vain? We witness suffering, death and destruction and angrily proclaim our contempt for an advanced life force's indifferent attitude.

If there were no God, we would never dream grand dreams and chase the meaning of life. Do we have to believe in God as presented to us in organized religion and written doctrine? Of course not, for religions seek to monopolize God for their own interests and claim the Supreme Being as their own thus validating their own low self esteem and proclaiming to the world, "Look at how we worship our God, we praise God so much better than your group does".

While I cannot tell you for certain there exists a God or Gods, no one can disprove this either. Simply stating observations and dissecting life/death, beginning/end is not enough. Your friends could well insist no one has returned to explain the wonders of God, but our planet was also believed to be flat at one time. Our understanding is constantly evolving embracing new wonders only years ago seemed untouchable.

Next time you and your friends are feeling doubts, simply gaze up into the clear nighttime sky and witness the wonder and vastness of incomprehensible time and space. Discover the futility in thinking all before us is an accident. If nothing else, it will appear as a beautiful accident to even the non believer and make them think.
