Carl Allen (Jim Carrey) is a man that just says no. That is until Nick (John Michael Higgins), a friend, told him about a seminar he should go to. He goes. He then says, instead, yes to everything. Yes Man.
Jim Carrey was alright. He was not that funny in this film. This film's story line wasn't that funny. They had all the right elements in it: the quirky character, funny situations, funny actors but the execution was just poorly done. What was well done was that ever situation he said yes to ended up helping him towards the end. I like when movies take the situations in the story and tie them together. It's like a figure eight. There's a turn here and there but in the end it all connects.
One of my favorite scenes had to do with a famous song about suicide being sung. It's funny and creative for what it was and that it resurrected an old song. It made me laugh. The only other thing that made me laugh more was Zooey Deschanel existence in this film, who plays the love interest Allison. She is just a great actress that is pleasant to see on the screen. Every time she was in a scene I enjoyed it. When she is not there, I was very bored and yearning for her return.
It was 15 minutes too long. Most comedies do not have the ability to go past the hour and half mark. This one is no exception.
It's really close to being a straight to DVD type movie, but because it had Jim Carry attached it was allowed to go on to the big screen.
I'm bored reviewing this movie. I hate when there's nothing new that really comes out and it makes me pick something else to watch. I was right to have skipped it the first time, I should have skipped it again. I just had to leave the house. Don't say yes to seeing this film. It treats the viewer like they are not smart enough to laugh at good things that one should but be stupid enough to laugh at what they decide is funny.
I wish life was like Uno. I could have placed the skip card on this sucker and it wouldn't have made so much money as it did. Why can't Uno be real? I would have so much power with the skip. I'd even glue it to certain people so those that go, "Hey that person looks like a good friend." They'd see the skip and move right along knowing that that person isn't worthy. But let's not get bitter. This is mainly for movies. Skip this because Hollywood needs to know we are smarter than this. If it continues to make more money they'll only think they've done well and they have not. Skip!
