Yesterday’s Page Views

Googled into Oblivion

David A. Reinstein, LCSW

Page views are a thing of the past,
It now seems quite clear this will last.
When Google forsook us
Their new algorithm shook us
And our earnings shrunk faster than fast.

No longer indexed or acknowledged
Goggle lumped us all as unworthy knowledge;
We may yet wail and moan
As our much YCN/AC home
Gets pushed right on over the steep ledge.

The Beatles sang of Yesterday
With fond memories in song
Like those old page view payouts
For which we continue to long.
Our content farm needs fertilizing
To recover from the Googled down-sizing.

By the way... I think it's no accident that Google reported record profits for 3Q '11, while during the same period,Yahoo has seen its stock plunge from over $500 a share to less than $15, its CEO fired, and attempts to sell the company off to any interested bidder. Google really is the "900-pound gorilla in the room..."

Re: your reply to Don's comment: I remember last winter your writing to me about who gets ikn the lifeboats first, and closing your message with a quote from Tom Lehrer, "We'll all sink together when we sink." I think it pretty much applies to the long-term effects of this complete Google disaster. Excellent writing, thanks

Great poetic rant, speaking for us all. Even relative newbies who never had many page views 9posting primarily poetry) are affected: My page views seem to be cut in half.
