After his honest reaction of running straight to the bathroom to gain his composure, Reginald Ganther returned to the store where he bought the candy bar, and they removed all the Hershey bars from the shelf.
Normally, in this litigious age, people claiming foreign objects in their food draws the skeptical eye of these multi-million-dollar franchises, but Hershey admitted this happens on occasion. It can happen to any food containing nuts, as worms can lay their eggs inside, failing quality inspection at the candy factory.
It helped that Reginald Ganther was such a good sport about it. A Christian music producer, he shrugged it off and now vows to fully inspect any future candy bars before he eats them. Hershey sent Mr. Ganther some coupons for free purchases of future Hershey bars.
KCCI of Des Moines produced a piece on the story of the live worm in the Hershey bar, with an interview of the reasonable Reginald Ganther; watch the video.
There is also a YouTube video of an alleged live worm coming out of a Hershey's kiss.
It's doubtful that a grub would harm you if you actually ingested it. The chocolate would likely cut down on the grossness factor, although it is recommended that you freeze your Hershey bar. Crunchy, dry chocolate worms tend to go down better than slimy, gooey chocolate worms.
When inspecting Halloween candy with peanuts inside this year, there may be a hidden treat in your fun size Snicker or Hershey bar. But treat it as a golden ticket situation. Contact Snickers or Hershey immediately and you might get enough coupons to make Halloween a year-round event. Their respective customer service phone numbers are on their websites.
Just be sure not to eat your candy in the dark, watching a scary movie, or else your screams may come not from the vampire lurking behind that door, but from the sweet creepy crawlies in your mitts.
You might just be better off eating your Hershey bar in the daytime, perhaps while fishing. If you run out of live bait, reach into your tackle box, pull out your chocolate bar, and wish for a nice juicy worm.

Post a CommentI found a live worm in a Snickers bar on July 15, 2010. It was about 3/4 inch long and wiggled his way out of the side of a Snickers that was a little soft due to the heat that day. I have a 7 second video of it.
