I needed a gym class to complete my senior year of college. I saw that yoga was available and I decided I would take that. I put on what I thought were yoga clothes and walked into this class knowing it was an easy credit. I sat next to other students who considered this class a joke as well. Then the class started.
As each class went by I learned move after move. Each move pressed my body to go farther then it has ever gone. I could not believe how flexible I originally was and how much more I have become through each class. Physically I was getting stronger and stronger. My core was building up and my presence was just changing. Because of the moves and stretches we were doing twice a week in class, I realized unintentionally I was standing up straight at all times. I looked more confident with this new found positive posture. My body was slowly but surely toning up. I was using my own body weight as resistance. It was making me stronger then ever. I could do pushups like a marine. I went from not being able to touch my toes to having my palms on the floor. Physically I was changing, not major just starting to look toned and more athletic looking.
The physical stuff is not what changed my life. It was nice to look better and to feel like my body was being taken to a new higher level. But it was the mental stuff that made this a life changing experience. Yoga is a very spiritual and meditative experience. Each move you concentrate on your breathing and your body. Each move is slow and precise and takes your mind to a different place. The world was slowly being lifted from my shoulders. As I focused on myself I was not focusing on the stresses of my life anymore. No matter how much was on my mind each move would take all that focus away from the stress and putting it back on me. I finally found a way to escape the world.
After my classes I continued with my practices of yoga. I bought DVDs and yoga matt so I could do it every day. Things about me slowly changed for the better. Besides my posture being better I started to act as confident was I looking. With a way to release my stress and feel better about my body I became stronger women mentally. I started becoming a healthier person, being so active made me want to follow that with overall health in every aspect of my life. I started eating healthier which gave me more energy for yoga and other daily activities. My skin and body was looking healthier and stronger. I got rid of all the negative things in my life. I got rid of the junk food, the negative people, and the negative lifestyle. I was happy and healthy for the first time in my life.
My life has really changed for the better. I recommend trying yoga and see how slowly and steadily your life gets better.
