Yoga Helps Slow Aging Process

McKenzie
Although the aging process is natural, the way we care for our bodies has a major impact on how quickly we age. If we don't take proper care of ourselves, the body will begin to degenerate and age quicker. Leading a inactive lifestyle, eating for enjoyment rather than nutrition and having bad posture leads to stiff, achy joints and lots of other pains.

Taking proper care of the body should be a top priority. While proper nutrition including lots of vegetables and fruits is important, exercise is a very close second on that health priority list.

You should incorporate an exercise program into your life. Yoga seems to be well received by individuals not accustomed to exercising on a routine basis. It is made up of gentle movement that work to strengthen and tone your body without placing strain on weakened muscles. The movements can be easily modified to suit your fitness level. Results from yoga will be noticed in a very short time. As with any exercise program, it should be done a minimum of twenty minutes a day, three times a week.

Yoga has gained popularity in recent years and people practice it for noticeable improvement in energy level, flexibility and the ability to focus. Following are some of the benefits experienced by yoga.

• Increase of energy level and mental focus, thereby improving productivity. The poses, stretches and breathing techniques involved in yoga help relax the mind as well as the body. This is beneficial in clearing our thoughts and providing necessary energy in order to function at our best.
• The movements in yoga do not focus on quantity, but quality. The intentional motions help increase blood flow and oxygen to the internal organs, therefore improving resistance to illness.
• With the increased flow of blood and oxygen throughout the body, yoga helps to maintain a healthy body weight. For people with weight issues, yoga helps in the achievement of an acceptable body weight.
• Because of the focus on techniques and breathing in yoga, it puts you into a meditative state, taking you away from distractions in your surroundings. This encourages you to focus on your inner self, which leads to overall contentment and peace.

While yoga may seem like a fix-all, too good to be true solution, it has been proven by individual experiences to positively influence overall health and well-being and slow down the aging process.
