These two work very well with each other. Why is that? That is because first of all, these two types of exercises have a lot in common. Pilates for example, focuses on centering the body, precision, concentrating and natural flow. Yoga focuses on the same principles. This is one reason they can work so well together. It is that shared focus and common goal that makes them work.
However, these two types of exercise do have their differences as well. Do those differences make them clash or do they strengthen each other? Their differences are actually a large part of why Yoga and Pilates work so well. One major difference is that while Yoga focuses on stretching the body, Pilates works on strengthening it. In turn though, Pilates do lengthen the body and Yoga helps to develop the strength. When the two are done together, the result is the Pilates strengthening while the Yoga helps to keep the strength there. Core strength is an element that both of these types of exercises thrives on. What is core strength? Core strength is something that is physical as well as mental.
Part of how you can make Yoga as well as Pilates work for you is by using the techniques properly. This can be done by following the given breathing exercises. Why is this so important? It is so important because when you are breathing better you are moving better, thinking better and your whole body benefits from it. How does it benefit? One of the benefits from Yoga and Pilates is the development of the body and its' muscles.
Though body building can achieve the same goal, Yoga and Pilates develop body strength without the body bulk. Also, many people say that after practicing these two types of exercise they feel more at peace and at one with themself. These types of feelings can increase happiness too! When your body is happy, you are more apt to want to exercise. These feelings can also help you to gain confidence in yourself, in your body as well as your bodies' abilities.
So is one form of exercise better than the other? The truth is that they are both excellent. You can do one without the other, but you may get more benefit out of doing both together. You can do this by taking a Yoga class, a Pilate class or both! If you would feel more comfortable doing it in your own home, you can buy DVDs that will instruct you on how to do both of these properly. These can be found at any book store or in special exercise catalogs.
