A Great Camping Retreat for Kids

Yogi Bear Jellystone Park near Scottsburg, Indiana is a great place to take young children for a weekend getaway or a week long trip. There are plenty of activities for old and young alike. Whether you enjoy water activities or just sitting around a campfire, this is the place to go.

Located 4 miles west of I-65 on State Road 56 in Scottsburg, Indiana it is an easy camp to find. It is 30 miles from Louisville and 80 miles from Indianapolis. It is located on Raintree Lake. This park was started in 1962 and is family owned and operated.

For campers, there are 91 sites with 20, 30, and 50 amp service to them and there are even sites that are 80 feet long for the largest of the motor homes. They also offer primitive tent sites and cabin rentals. The cabins have a microwave and a small refrigerator in them as well as bunk beds and a full size bed.

The park is staffed with management 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There is a laundry and dump station located in the park also. In the office, you can find a few gift ideas or some of the most commonly needed items along with ice.

Activities abound in this park, with even more taking place on the weekends. Weekends also brings Yogi out and into the park. Children and adults can enjoy raising the flag with Yogi and taking a hayride around the park with Yogi. Some weekends are themed weekends where you might take place in a good old- fashioned hoe down with a live band, listen to a 50's band night, or even take place in a dance or karaoke event.

Activities for the kids include a game room, mini-golf, pool, and playground. There are arts and crafts during the day, especially on weekends, for the kids and game times with Yogi. If water activities are your style, there are rowboats that you could enjoy. You will also find pedal boat rentals and a 9 acre fishing lake that could provide a day full of fun.

Raintree Lake and Yogi Bear Jellystone Park are located near the Clifty Falls State park which is always a nice trip for a scenic drive, a picnic, or a nice hike to see one of the falls located within the park.

While at the park, you can ask the management staff for suggestions of places nearby to see as they are always willing to help. Take time to schedule your next trip to Jellystone Park, you will be glad that you did.

This park provided one of the best weekend trips that we have ever taken our children on. They were a little old to enjoy Yogi, but it was still fun to do the flag ceremony and the hayride with him. It was a nice weekend trip that included a lot of fun and quality family time together. I hope to go again this year and I hope to have just as much fun! There are several of these kinds of parks located around the United States, so if you can't make it to Indiana don't despair, just type in the location nearest you and see what Jellystone Park you can find.
