Yogi Bedtime Tea: An Organic Blend of Licorice and Spearmint

Zachary Fruhling
Yogi Tea has recently become my favorite brand of tea. Yogi uses all natural ingredients, most of which are organically produced, which results in a quality tea that is flavorful and delicious. While during the day I prefer a caffeinated tea to keep my energy and my metabolism up, in the evening I prefer a caffeine free tea to help me unwind and relax before bedtime. The Yogi Tea Bedtime Blend is a subtly sweet tea with hints of licorice and spearmint, both of which are known for their aiding in relaxation.

Yogi Bedtime Tea contains a wide assortment of organic ingredients, including organic licorice root, organic spearmint leaf, organic chamomile flower, organic skullcap leaf, organic cardamom seed, organic cinnamon bark, organic St. John's Wort leaf and flower, organic rose hip, organic raspberry leaf, valerian root extract, organic English lavender flower, and passion flower extract. The final tea blend is a complex infusion of the above flavors with the licorice and spearmint flavors being the dominant flavors in this tea blend.

Yogi Bedtime Tea is caffeine free, so it is the perfect tea to drink before bedtime or anytime you need to relax or unwind after a hard day. While a single teabag is probably enough, if you prefer a stronger tea, then you can use two tea bags of Yogi Bedtime Tea to increase the potency of the relaxing herbal supplements in the Yogi Tea. You can also use a touch of milk or cream a cup of Yogi Bedtime Tea, since dairy products are also known for their relaxation properties, but I have found that having milk before bedtime will cause me to have more phlegm and to be more choked up at night than if I have my Yogi Bedtime Tea plain with no milk. Alternatively you could use a spoonful of your favorite honey if you wanted to sweeten up your Yogi Bedtime Tea just a bit, although the sugar might counteract the calming effects of the Yogi Bedtime Tea.

The Yogi Bedtime Tea comes labeled with a warning that Yogi Bedtime Tea should not be used during pregnancy or while nursing. Presumably this means that one or more of the ingredients is harmful to the development of a fetus and/or harmful to the nursing child. Being male, this is a non-issue for me, obviously, but it is an important warning to heed if you drink a lot of tea and are either having kids or planning to have kids.

In conclusion, Yogi Bedtime Tea is a very complex, caffeine free bedtime tea blend with all-natural organic ingredients. The many quality ingredients create a complex and potent blend of relaxing herbal flavor that is perfect after a long day or on a cold winter night. Yogi Bedtime Tea is available at most grocery stores, such as Safeway and Nob Hill Foods. And while Yogi Bedtime Tea is just one of the many tea varieties offered by Yogi Tea, it is one of my favorites due to its subtle sweetness of licorice and spearmint.
