Yogi Egyptian Licorice Tea is Unusually Sweet and Spicy

Zachary Fruhling
While I have often not been a fan of licorice tea, recently I discovered the Egyptian Licorice tea by Yogi Tea. I have often found licorice tea to be unbalanced, either having too strong of a licorice flavor or too weak of a licorice flavor. The Egyptian Licorice tea by Yogi Tea, however, is a perfectly balanced blend of licorice root and other organic herbal ingredients. The Yogi Egyptian Licorice tea is neither too strong nor too weak, and it combines the sweetness of licorice with the aromas of spiciness other herbs and spices.

Among the ingredients in the Yogi Egyptian Licorice tea are organic cinnamon bark, organic orange peel, organic ginger root, organic cardamom seed, natural tangerine flavor, organic black pepper (which accounts for an interesting pairing of spiciness with the sweetness of the licorice), organic clove bud, and natural cinnamon oil. As with all herbal teas, it is essential that you let the tea bag steep adequately before drinking the tea. Herbal tea infusions often take longer to steep than do their genuine black or green tea counterparts. The directions on the Yogi Egyptian Licorice tea state that one should brew the licorice tea for five minutes before drinking. For those preferring a stronger brew, two tea bags may be used instead of one.

Since the Yogi Egyptian Licorice tea is made with all natural and organic ingredients, you can be sure that the Yogi Egyptian Licorice tea contains the highest quality ingredients that are produced in a sustainable and ecologically friendly manner.

An interesting quality of the Yogi Egyptian Licorice tea is the way in which the licorice sweetness lingers on the palate in a vapor of anise flavor. I cannot overemphasize this point, since it is a truly unusual and striking quality of the Yogi Egyptian Licorice tea. The sweetness and spiciness blend together and will linger on your tongue long after the last sip of tea has been swallowed. And the licorice/anise flavor has a refreshing quality that many herbal teas lack. For those who prefer a creamier or milkier tea than most herbal teas usually allow for, the Yogi Egyptian Licorice tea may be served with milk or a milk substitute. The creaminess of the milk will compliment the sweetness of the licorice and create a wonderful drink to have with cookies or other dessert pastries for an after-meal treat.

In conclusion, Yogi Egyptian Licorice tea is an unusually balanced and flavorful herbal tea that combines the sweetness of licorice with the spiciness of other organic herbs and spices. Yogi Egyptian Licorice tea has become a regular treat in my tea rotation, and should be a part of yours as well.
