YoGo Golden Sliced Yogurt Cake

Consumer Product Review

Thomas J McCabe

Up until a few weeks ago, I was unfamiliar with yogurt cakes. After seeing displays of several types of YoGo brand yogurt cakes recently, I decided to purchase and consume three different varieties, including the YoGo Golden Sliced Cake.

This old fashioned-style yellow yogurt cake slice is a delicious tasting treat and is expertly baked. Presented here, in an effort to assist the consumer, is an article which reviews and examines YoGo Golden Sliced Cake.

Size
The net weight of the standard sized package of YoGo Golden Sliced Cake is six ounces (170 grams). According to the product's nutrition facts label, the package holds two 1 slice (85 grams) servings.

In physical size, this package of sliced cake is pretty large. Each of the two slices measures roughly 3.5" x 4".

Price
The regular retail price charged for one six ounce package of YoGo Golden Sliced Cake varies. At the West Hartford, Connecticut Walgreens Pharmacy where I have buying this cake, the regular retail price charged for one package of this cake is approximately $1.59. This price seems very reasonable to me.

Texture / Consistency
One of the factors that makes me like YoGo Golden Sliced Cake so much is the delightful texture the cake possesses. To be honest, I am fascinated with the texture of this variety of cake. It is dense and tightly packed, yet nice and light at the same time. The edges of the cake are also nice and appealingly brown. The overall mouth feel offered by this cake is quite pleasing.

Nutritional Facts
YoGo Golden Sliced Cake contains 260 calories, with 90 calories from fat, per one slice (85 grams) serving. This tasty yogurt cake also contains 2.5 grams of saturated fat, 0 grams trans fat, 10 grams total fat, 75 mg of cholesterol, 320 mg of sodium, 37 grams total carbohydrates, 0 grams of dietary fiber, 20 grams of sugars and 4 grams of protein, per one slice serving.

Taste / Flavor
Ever since I first saw YoGo brand yogurt cakes displayed at my local Walgreens Pharmacy about a month ago, I have tried the YoGo Blueberry Yogurt Cake, the YoGo Tuxedo Yogurt Cake and the YoGo Golden Sliced Cake.

While I really like the blueberry yogurt cake and the tuxedo yogurt cake, I think I like the flavor and texture of the YoGo Golden Sliced Cake the best of all three. It's hard for me to precisely describe the taste of this cake. The flavor tastes sort of like vanilla and the Greek yogurt gives the cake a rich, yet light flavor that really satisfies.

To me, the YoGo Golden Sliced Cake tastes a lot like cakes that were prevalent in decades past. In its simplicity, this cake offers a lot of understated flavor. On a flavor scale of one through ten, I would assign this product a rating of 9.50.

Packaging
YoGo Golden Sliced Cake is packaged in an attractive, beigeish plastic wrapper that features a large oval clear plastic section in the middle of the front label. A horizontal illustration of a slice of the cake is also on the front label and the rear label lists all relevant ingredient and nutrition information. Inside the wrapper, the cake slices rest on a sturdy piece of cardboard.

Overall Rating
Ever since I first saw them a few weeks ago, I had a feeling that I might really enjoy eating the various types of YoGo yogurt cakes that have recently been stocked at my local Walgreens Pharmacy. Well, that feeling was accurate. Every one of the three varieties I have tried has been much to my liking, particularly the YoGo Golden Sliced Cake.

Yogurt cakes are a heretofore seldom seen item that are quite tasty and nicely textured. If you see this cake on display at your local Walgreens Pharmacy or other food retailer, try it. There's a good chance you might like it.
