Yoplait Plain Greek Yogurt Review

Sophie Spyrou

Greek yogurt has a distinctive sour taste, which is an acquired taste for many. With so many brands to choose from, it can be hard to pick one and stick with it. Is Yoplait plain Greek yogurt worth trying?

Price and Availability

I purchased three 170g (6 oz) tubs of Yoplait plain Greek yogurt for just $0.39 each from my local 99ยข Only Store. As many similar sized tubs of Greek yogurt were selling for around $1 elsewhere, this seemed like a great deal in comparison. I chose the plain Greek yogurt, as it contained a lot less sugar than other flavoured brands.

Ingredients

This yogurt contains cultured pasteurised Grade A nonfat milk, milk protein concentrate and less than 1% kosher gelatin, vitamin A acetate and vitamin D3. Yoplait plain Greek yogurt is a gluten-free food, which is good news for consumers who are on the lookout for gluten-free products.

Nutrition Facts

Each serving size contains 120 calories, none of which are from fat, no saturated or trans fats, 15mg cholesterol, 115mg sodium, 12g carbohydrate, 9g sugar, and 17g protein. You will receive 15% of your daily allowance of vitamin A, 20% vitamin D, 45% calcium and 35% phosphorous in each serving of Yoplait plain Greek yogurt.

Yoplait plain Greek yogurt is low in calories and is fat-free. It is also low in cholesterol and sodium and an excellent source of protein, calcium and other essential vitamins and minerals.

Taste Test

When I first tried this product, I did not notice much difference between this brand of Greek yogurt and others I have tried in the past. It was rich and creamy, with the usual sour taste I've come to associate with it. I added honey to one serving and jam to others to help sweeten the yogurt a little. The extra additions helped make this yogurt more palatable.

Recommendation

Yoplait plain Greek yogurt tastes about the same as some other brands of Greek yogurt I have tried. But the difference is that this one was much more reasonably priced than others I have come across and the yogurt is a better source of protein and calcium. If you are trying to increase your calcium or protein intake, I would recommend this product.
