'You Again' with Kristen Bell, Jamie Lee Curtis, Sigourney Weaver Coming to DVD/Blu-Ray Feb. 8 - Movie Review

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment is releasing the romantic comedy "You Again" on DVD and Blu-ray this February 8th just in time for Valentine's Day. The film stars Kristen Bell ("When in Rome," "Forgetting Sarah Marshall"), Jamie Lee Curtis ("Beverly Hills Chihuahua," "Freaky Friday"), Sigourney Weaver ("Avatar," "Baby Mama"), Kristin Chenoweth ("Glee," "Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue"), Odette Yustman ("October Road," Cloverfield), Victor Garber ("Alias") and Betty White ("Hot in Cleveland," "Golden Girls," "The Proposal").

"You Again" a Look at High School Rivalry, Bullying and Past Humiliations

For anyone who felt like an outcast in high school, "You Again" is the story of Marnie (Kristen Bell), whose high school experience was a horror movie she has worked hard to put behind her. Her brother Will's (James Wolk) upcoming wedding becomes the sequel when he announces he is marrying her high school archrival, Joanna, whom Will does not realize bullied and humiliated Marnie mercilessly in the past. The situation becomes even more complicated when it turns out Marnie's mother (Jamie Lee Curtis) and Joanna's aunt (Sigourney Weaver) were also high school rivals.

"You Again" aHumorous Look at High School Dynamics

"You Again" takes a humorous and truthful look at high school dynamics and the fruit it can bear in adult life. All three generations of women in the movie have experienced rivalry, bullying or humiliation, and all three generations must decide whether to remain stuck in the low points of high school or to overcome the rivalries and pain of high school and move on.

With an all-star cast including Patrick Duffy, Cloris Leachman, and Dwayne Johnson, as well as Kristen Bell, Jamie Lee Curtis, Sigourney Weaver, Kristin Chenoweth, Odette Yustman, Victor Garber and Betty White, the acting in "You Again" has not fared well with many reviewers. However, I thought the acting was predominantly pitch perfect in an entertaining story of revenge versus reconciliation. However, the tear-jerking revelation that Joanna is really sorry after treating Marnie with such deliberate cruelty in the past and present rings false and leads to a predictably sappy happy ending.

"You Again" - Overcoming & Forging the Past

"You Again" gives an uplifting look at the benefits overcoming past mistakes and forgiving former hurts. A chick-flick romantic-comedy movie, "You Again" is family friendly and should appeal to all ages, making it a good Valentine's Day movie offering.
