You Can't Lose!

"God Calling' Message Essay for September 9, 2010

"God Calling" today makes the statement that there is no failure with Jesus. That's a very profound and powerful statement. There can't be any failure with Jesus. This doesn't mean that Jesus won't accept failurefrom us, or accept us when we fail. What this says is that no matter what the outcome, it is victory for us; victory!

This tells me that sometimes my perception and expectation of victory in a particular situation may be very different from the victory that the Lord sees for me in that situation. In light of that, I have to wonder how often we cheat ourselves out of the real victory; the one the Lord has for us, because we insist on getting the victory that we see for ourselves and expect to get. We rush toward that ahead of Jesus; or we might bypass Jesus altogether because we are looking our own way, through our own eyes and not His. God says that His ways are higher than our ways and Jesus is the truth, the way and the life. Therefore, the true victory is really found in letting Him have His way and accepting the victory that He has for us-even if and when that victory looks like defeat to us. Remember Calvary-it looked as if Jesus had lost. But really, He had won the battle; and won it for us as well. We can't lose. There can be no failure with Jesus.

This message also reminds me that my great field of work is myself first, then those that He sends me to labor in. Often, we get into such a hurry to serve the Lord by helping others. We fail to notice that our own shoelaces are tangled up together until we find ourselves face down, flat on the ground after we trip over them. That's why vigilance is so important for us. Oh, I'm so guilty of that from time to time. I know what the "seal" of the Lord is now, as a result. It is that little impression on our foreheads that comes from having our foreheads pressed tightly against hands that are folded in prayer after we get those tangled shoelace "revelations"; you know, the ones that leave us with skinned up knees and road rash on our chins.
