You Can’t Not Communicate

Things Said or Unsaid Communicate Something

David A. Reinstein, LCSW

A person can scream aloud
Or in silence simply sit;
One can stay calm in the face of rage
Or respond with one's own fit.
Lots of words can be spoken
Cloaked in lovingness or hate,
But no matter how much or how little
Is overtly expressed
You can't not communicate.

Each motion says something
And every facial movement, too;
A sigh is quite expressive
And tells something about you.
Silence speaks quite loudly
When you do not take the bait
Thrown out by a provocateur-
You can't not communicate.

Everything means something
Or nothing has meaning at all;
It's one way or the other
For things large and for things small.
Whether the intention
Is to praise or to berate
No matter how few words are said
You can't not communicate.

    Excellent! And for those who sit steaming in silence it is up to those around them to learn to read those unspoken words!
