You Don't Have to Be Rich to Cast a Spell

Witchcraft and Spell Casting All in Your Mind

Regina Sunderland
If you are reading this Article you are one of two Types of People. One, you are either already involved in some version of Paganism or at least highly interested in it. Two a Stout believer that all Witches and Pagans should be forbidden to live in which case you are looking for yet another Spot to point your finger in proof of how evil we all are.
No matter which Category you may find yourself, I hope that you will find these Articles informative and somewhat entertaining.

First allow me to introduce myself to you and explain to you what brought this Article to the front of my mind. You could say I had a calling, in some ways quiet literally to write on this subject. I am an eclectic solitary Witch/Priestess and Mentor to my 16 Year old Daughter in the ancient Arts. I work with Candles, Crystals, Tarot, Spell Casting, Shamanism, Dragons (but please don't tell them that they would be very offended if they would consider themselves a tool and not a mentor) and too many more things to mention. In short I am a healer, nature and kitchen Witch. No, I am not a Wiccan; actually I am far from it. I follow a straight forward Path of Balance with using and manipulating both forces of Nature the negative as well as the positive. I have studied since I was 7 Years of age which brings it to 30Years now. I had the great fortune to have had my introductions into the way of the Witch by a wonderful old Strega who resided in Germany at the Time. If you ever want to learn about old Witchcraft, find a Book in the Library or your local Bookstore about Italian Witchcraft and be amazed at some of the simple wisdom and history that those Woman of Diane had.

Now that explains a bit about me, but it does not explain why I have decided to tackle this particular subject. The answer is rather simple. With hundreds of Books written about the subjects of paganism and spell casting, thousands of Websites claiming to cast spells for you or giving you the Grimoirs of their particular coven, I am amazed how much hocus pocus and money mongering is involved. So many claims of this spell casting for sights are so phony and computer generated that I could scream. How horrible that a person in need would not only be ripped off their hard earned money, but is also let down by those that are suppose to work with integrity. Paganism used to be the Path of tolerance and wisdom, of ancient knowledge, now it has become another popular fad that hundreds are clinging to without any real conviction on their part.

Slowly I have discontinued to frequent the local psychic shop after I have to listen to yet another spin on how you have to have this particular candle for $14.99, powder's or herbs for $6.99 not even an ounce and oh yes don't forget the handcrafted amulet (made in china) for $59.99 only to cast a simple money spell. Here stands the person already in dire need of finances, which commonly enough means you don't have the money to waste to begin with. After witnessing this wonder of modern salesmanship, I would like to tear out my hair, strangle the person (either sales or costumer for being so gullible) and scream bloody murder. Here the first Rule of Engagement should be. Thou shall use your head and think. Believe me; you will need your mind in casting Spells.

The skinny is that you don't need expensive powders, overpriced candles or amulets that are mass produced to cast a spell. If you feel the need to use herbs, candles or amulets you can purchase them in your local Supermarket or Department Store (herbs and candles) and fashion the amulets your-self (which is recommended by the way). The one thing you do need above all else is your mind, a strong belief in the outcome and the honest desire for it to work. You will have to be able to will it into existence. I am sure you have read the closing phrase: "As I will it, so mote it be" in many books. That Phrase is one of the truest statements ever made in Witchcraft. Your mind, words and will are the strongest tools you will ever wield.

Are Candles, Herbs and other magickal tools obsolete?
Not at all, they are a help aid in accomplishing what you are doing. They are a focal point, something to concentrate your mind power on. The Scent of the Herbs has healing properties and even the herb itself is used for many healing areas. The old midwives knew that, the medicine woman/man and shamans used them to help promote healing and sight. Colors correspond with particular areas of magic. Crystals give of vibrations that can help us draw out sicknesses and cleanse or clear our chakras. However, all those are various areas of Witchcraft or paganism and not only Spell Casting.
Cinderella's fairy godmother would have told us: "A spell is a wish your mind and heart makes, speaks it out, puts into the universe and brings about by believing and actions"

If we were to believe the good folks at your local magic store, psychic store or tarot parlor, you would be looking at a statement as follows; if you are broke magic and can not afford our Products or services magic no longer works for you. Please do not believe such an outrageous thought or statement, it simple isn't so.

I have taught my daughter and a few other novices a simple way of looking at it. A spell is nothing more then an earnest desire to achieve something you need, want or desire. You can speak it out, write it on Paper and burn it to release it into the universe or you can simple think it, concentrate on it and believe that you can achieve. You can draw it on a card and meditate on it, focusing all your energies on your spell.

A note of wisdom here and yes there are few fine points I would like to touch on.

1. When working magic it does not do you any good to be greedy. The universe will give you ways to achieve that your needs are met. However, it has a nasty way of kicking you in the behind if you are just trying to mess with nature. If you are casting a money spell ask for what you need.

2. Be precise in what you are asking for. If you generalize a spell in casting for you soul mates you want to make sure you have really thought about all the qualities that are important to you. If you are not partcial to a particular gender or race you may want to put that in. Magic / Universe/ Nature has a sense of humor, often it brings you exactly what you ask for. Wouldn't it be a hoot if you have asked for a loyal, cuddly and devoted companion and you find a four legged dog?

3. Please don't cast any love spells. Ask for your soul mate, your perfect for you partner, but believe me to try to force someone that does not want you into your life only brings misery. If that person is meant for you, he or she will come to you if he or she is meant for you.

4. Just casting a spell is not enough. You have decided what it is you want and need; you have carefully cast your spell and now you are impatiently wait for your gift to arrive. A Spell will open doors and windows for you, but you still have to walk through. With other words, you have to take actions. If you have asked for healing, but won't take your medicine you will not get better. If you have asked for money, but refuse to take the new better job, you are hopeless.

5. Never stop learning, studying and believe in your intuition. You will often come up against knowledge that will either feel right or wrong to you. Trust your intuition. Never do anything that makes you feel uncomfortable. Trust your instincts. Do not allow anyone to brain wash you or to threaten you.

6. Thou shall be able to think for thy-self should be the first Commandment of Witchcraft. Use your common sense, don't do anything stupid. Don't blindly follow a "religious" leader just because they made claims or have a charm and charisma. Just because you read it somewhere, doesn't mean it is true.

7. You will often come to find that you just know something. You may not know where it comes from, but you know without the shadow of doubt. Do not let others make you doubt. Have faith in yourself and your abilities.

8. Do not discount the talents of others. Embrace all of your-self. 99% of us are not all good or all bad. We have to have both spiritual and downright primal sides to us. Otherwise we would not survive.

9. Nothing is ever black or white. What most want to cast as black or white magic is just positive (spiritual) or negative (primal) forces. Often when working magic we work in the gray. We must invoke both the positive (mental, mind, spirit, enlightenment, will) and the negative (primal, need, desire, and sexual energy, emotions) to achieve our goal. If you cast a spell you have to find regret in later, perhaps you have no cause to cast it in the first place. However on the other side of the coin, if you have cast a spell that revenged, righted an injustice and enriched yourself you should not feel regret.

10. Reality and truth is in the eye of the beholder. With other words, each of us has a different reality and truth. What is true for you might not be so for me and vice versa. Be true to yourself and your own reality and truth in your magical life. Ignore others and their stabs or hurtful words against you. Remember that for them ignorance is not just bliss, hurtful or foolish words are often spoken out of fear of the unknown or out of the resentment that they can not control your way of thinking, behaving or living. Don't force your believe or path on others, but don't permit them to force theirs on your either.

Be proud of who you are. Your body and mind is your temple, keep it in order. Give yourself time to evolve in your wisdom and spirit. Thou art what thou art, be blessed because of it.

I can very much relate to your way of thinking. How lucky you are to have had such a great mentor. I have always been terrified to aproach celtic witches for training in the ways of old magick.

From what I understand of this article, you will get what you want using your head, being logical, open to new opportunities....So actually witchcraft does not exist, does it? It is only a word man created to explain what he could not understand!

I certainly enjoyed reading this article. Nice job! I've always been fascinated with this subject and have found that having a strong mind and will and really focusing hard on a desired outcome can make all the difference in the world.
