I am pleased to report (or otherwise if you don't like me or my writing), that before I left Florida last year to return to the UK, I gained my US Citizenship, and am therefore qualified to still earn money on Associated Content, and therefore hope to continue writing here.
For those of you who don't know, I moved to the USA in 1994, got married and divorced over there, and have two sweet daughters who live in Florida with their Mom. I applied for my citizenship both to secure my ability to visit them in Florida, as well as to enable me to continue to work in or move back to the USA should the opportunity arise. If you leave the country for more than six months your Green Card expires, and I did not want to burn any bridges.
Well in this case it looks as if getting my citizenship was a good move, however Uncle Sam is also now authorized to claim tax on all my overseas earnings in excess of around $80,000. Fortunately for me I don't earn that much, but in many ways I wish I did!
I will be sorry to see some of my new found friends on Associated Content leave, especially as there are some wonderful people on here.
I hope that if you are leaving you will keep in touch, and also let me know where you are writing. I am always interested in ways to earn more from writing, so sharing new sites where they pay you for writing would be helpful for all of us I feel.
You can find me on many networking sites under the name "Poddys", including Stumbleupon, Squidoo, Digg, Delicious, Xomba, Shetoldme, Qondio, Twitter, and under "Tony Payne" on Facebook. You can also find me on my blog Off The Record With Debbie And Tony, and I am always looking to swap links with blogs from other authors.
I would like to see Associated Content provide some details of the changes in the tax laws that have made it necessary (links would do), as I am sure that many of us are curious to know what has brought this change about. Maybe we can group together and lobby the government (of whichever country did this) and hope for a change.
Thinking about this, I have a funny feeling that it was caused by the IRS in the USA not being able to claim tax on earnings for a US based company that has earnings from outside the country by "clients" that are not US Citizens. This is just a guess though... Either way it's not fair.
Well I hope I don't end up losing contact with too many of you, and if you are leaving Associated Content I wish you luck and even further success in your writing career.
Best of Luck and Continued Friendships to all.
Tony

Post a CommentI was looking to see what sites UK writers could write for, but there doesn't seem to be many outside of the UK. I'm an American, but lived in the UK for 5 years.
I was wondering what you were going to do. I'm glad you're staying at AC!
I'm behind too,b ut sending PL your way:)
It's a shame to see so many good writers go but I can't blame them one bit.
Good to hear you'll be sticking around.
Good news! (Nice to meet you!)
Glad to hear this!
Glad to hear you will be staying with us.
I hate the change they made but I'm sure glad you aren't leaving.
:-) I don't know if I can stay or not. I've applied to the FC programme.
