You Are What You Eat: The Benefits of Being A Vegan

Fried Chicken, Potato chips, Soda Pop, Candie, eggs and bacon. What do all of these foods have in common? There are all extremely popular in America and other modernized nations, and are also terrible for your body. All of these foods can cause " type 2 diabetes, heart diseases and some forms of cancer, as well as psycho-social problems, osteoarthritis and a range of other co-morbidities." 2000/2007 - Decision News Media SAS. Also "In a report published, the WHO said nearly half of all deaths from heart disease, cancer, respiratory infections, strokes and diabetes -- to which about 35 million people will succumb this year -- were preventable." © Reuter's Health - www.reutershealth.com

After realizing all of the bad things that can happen from all of this nasty food I looked to 3rd world nations such as "Jamaica." After studying such places I noticed that the number one cause of death was from throat and mouth cancer which is caused by the use of marijuana. But other than this there was little other causes of death or disease. The reason for this is because most Jamaicans are Rasta or practice the religion of rastafarianism. In this way of life they only believe in eating things that are "ital" or pure from earth. They are complete vegan and don't drink alcohol or use tobacco. This means no Fried Chicken, Potato chips, Soda Pop, Candie, eggs or bacon.

About two years ago I decided that this what I need to do. So I gave up meat, dairy, fast food and most other things not "Ital." This was not an easy thing for me to do seeing how the staple of my diet was Cheese and Doritos. But with a little self motivation I had accomplished the task.

Since doing this I haven't had any health problems, had more energy, slept better, I believe strengthened my immune system and the best thing of all I have lost all most 40 pounds and still continue to loose weight.

On top of all of this I have been helping out the environment as well. "Meat and dairy production is an inefficient use of land, food and water. It has been estimated that for every kilogram of meat protein produced, farmed animals are fed nearly 6kg of plant protein. The meat-intensive diets of the developed world contribute to global warming, deforestation, desertification and water pollution. There is a serious lack of energy resources in the world. Wars are started over this issue. being vegan , you consume 16 times less energy from the earth than a meat eater. If people consumed less energy the world would be a better place.

Another interesting fact. Dairy cows and laying hens are amongst the most ill treated of all farmed animals. With their bodies viewed as no more than factories for food production, they are often overworked and neglected. When they have been worked to the point of exhaustion, they end their days in the same way as those raised solely for the meat trade - no farm animal can avoid the slaughterhouse." © The Vegan Society.

To this day I still an a Vegan and plan to be for the rest of my life. I love animals and the environment and hope to make the world a better place.

In conclusion being vegan is better for yourself, the environment, and obviously animals. I hope you will make the change to a better life.

How many times have you been told to eat more fruit and veg? Contrast this with how many times you've been told to eat more burgers...
