Last week I was in a grocery store. My wife had given me a list of items she wanted. Like most stores the line was long. This gave me time to just look at what other people were purchasing. The lady in front of me moved her items quickly out of her cart. She appeared to be in a hurry. Most of her items were frozen entrees. Most looked to be a meal for one person. I deduced that she was a single career lady.
The lady in the next line had purchased fresh fruits, veggies, and meat. She did have a few frozen items. They included french fries, bags of frozen veggies and waffles. She also had some lunch items. I deduced that she was a stay at home mom. She had time to prepare well cooked meals.
It was my turn. Besides my wife's items, I had purchased things that I like, a six pack of beer, chips, brats, BBQ sauce, buns, coffee, hand snacks and paper plates. Anyone could see that I like to sit on my deck, use my grill and snack while I write or watch television.
So what do grocery carts and motivational speakers have in common? Nothing! However, they both can tell us about ourselves.
Why do people want to listen to successful motivational speakers? They want a better life for themselves. They are searching for the keys to success. They are looking for ways to motivate ourselves. They are hoping to get those from these speakers.
What do we get by observing our grocery cart? We could learn the true meaning of our self. Are we lazy? Do we look for quick fixes? Do we take the time to prepare things the correct way?
The True Secret
Successful people are hard workers. They pay close attention to detail. They are self starters. They have intrinsic motivation. They work harder than their competitors.
Socrates said ,"Know thyself." I really believe this is the key to being successful. It might take a grocery cart to show us the type of individual we are.
Other Factors
In some cases "luck" can be a factor. Being in the right or wrong place at the right time can affect out lives.
So what is the secret to being successful? A motivational speaker could light our fire. However, it is ourselves and our desire to achieve, that determines our success.

I look around at others carts too and try to figure out what's going on with them. I do agree with your point that successful people motivate themselves to work hard.
