You Meant Something to Me

Theresa Wiza

You meant something to me

once

when I was a child and

you wrapped your loving arms around me

cocooned in your warmth

I felt safe and loved

I mourned the loss of you for

many years

and then one day

I lived the day

without thinking about you

until the sun

fell down below the horizon

and I felt guilty

for not thinking about you

that day

because the love I felt

the depth of my love

for you

permeated every cell in my body

every ethereal part of my spirit

and buried itself so deeply in my soul

that to forget for even one minute the impact you made

on my life

the comfort of knowing your love

was pure and real

seemed to me to be

a betrayal of my love for you

You mean something to me

still and

I will always love you

but if I forget to think about you

in moments when my mind is engaged in thoughts other than those filled with memories of you

I know you will forgive me because

you

loved me

too.
