You Can Own a Piece of Elizabeth Taylor’s Jewelry!

Elizabeth Taylor's jewelry collection, valued at over $30 million, will be up for auction in December. Fans of the renowned actress, who passed away in March, may be happy to learn that the auction will be open to the public. Who wouldn't like to own a piece of Elizabeth Taylor's jewelry?

Now, you may not be able to afford the "Elizabeth Taylor Diamond", a 33.19 carat diamond ring expected to bring approximately $3 million, or the "La Peregrina", a Cartier pearl, ruby and diamond necklace estimated at $3 million, both of which were gifts from Taylor's husband Richard Burton.

However, you may be able to bid on several of the more affordable pieces of Elizabeth Taylor's jewelry collection that will also be offered. For example, two diamond wedding bands, commemorating Taylor's two marriages to Burton, have an estimated value of $6,000 to $8,000. In addition, Taylor's collection of less publicized costume jewelry and other memorabilia, such as fashions and accessories, will also be auctioned, which will go for considerably less.

The auction of Elizabeth Taylor's jewelry collection and memorabilia will be held at Christie's auction house on 20 Rockefeller Plaza in New York City from December 13 through December 16. A public exhibition will be held before the auction on December 3 through December 12. A catalogue describing all items is also available from Christie's.

Can't make it to Christie's in New York City to attend the auction? Don't despair; in addition to bidding in person, you can also bid online, by telephone or by absentee bid.

Elizabeth Taylor once said "I never, never thought of my jewelry as trophies. I'm here to take care of them and to love them. When I die and they go off to auction I hope whoever buys them gives them a really good home."

So even if you can't afford the "Elizabeth Taylor Diamond" or the "La Peregrina", maybe you can give one of the more affordable pieces in Elizabeth Taylor's jewelry collection a "really good home."

I would give my right arm for Liz's Cartier ruby-and-diamond ensemble. But alas, Christie's isn't taking body parts for payment!

This was a fun read. When a friend of mine was assigned to be her bodyguard in Virginia, he made her an honorary deputy and pinned a deputy's badge on. I was hoping that that would show up in the jewelry inventory... but, alas, it didn't.
